Tekno66: keep an eye out for a documentary on NASA's accomplishment with what the Italians started in the 80's. I saw it on something like discovery or the science channel. Like Jordan said you can grow super fast and by controlling their environment you can grow some unreal Frankenstein weed. The only problem is that you usually only get one screw up before you lose a crop so you really have to know what you're doing. Get Cervantes's book and you really want to digest it. He'll give you most of what you need to know about hydro and aero is just having the roots suspended in air and sprayed with nutrients where in hydro they're in the nutrient bath and it's not as effective.

For hydro the roots are able to absorb the nutrient solution through the growing medium. Most plants are able to grow in this manner. Plants grown hydroponically tend to grow faster and are stronger than plants grown in conventional soil. Using a hydroponic delivery method you can provide a plant with the ideal amounts of the nutrients that it needs. I've been a soil grower for years and finished my first hydro run this last week and I have to tell you the difference in growth rates are night and day and I'm not dragging dirt in and out my house start and finish..

Tekno66: There are some things you need to consider with hydro first. I have an Aerogarden the patented self contained growing system with a tiny reservoir that only holds 112 ounces of nutrients. I spilled it once and it only took a couple of beach towels and a lot of swear words to sop up the mess. If you have a large volume of nutrient mix in your reservoir indoors you have to know it's secure. A buddy of mine lived in a second floor apartment and had an 18 gallon bubble tub going when it sprung a leak. He's one of these guys who's always trying to save a buck so instead of buying a good brand like Rubber Maid he bought a cheap Wall-Mart tub for five or six bucks. Months later he was gone for a weekend and when he returned he learned it had sprung a leak. It had done some serious damage to everything in his tiny apartment and leaked down into the ceiling of the down stairs apartment also. The land lord had entered with his pass key and seen what he was growing and he gave him a choice: move out now or he'd call the cops. My friend started moving at about eleven o'clock on a Sunday night. For safety sake, perhaps a tub within a tub?

Also you have to know that hydro is not as forgiving as dirt. Sure you can grow bigger and faster and some folks say as tasty as dirt but dirt is a great buffer and if you screw up you won't kill your crop right away. You'll usually have time to correct your mistake with dirt. With hydro a crop can turn on you in the blink of an eye. If you don't think so just read some of these posts written by guys screaming for help on this and other forums. If you're going to go hydro do your homework first. There are a lot of good resources to study and if you do your experience will likely be fun.
