Good strains for a beginner?

I'm currently living in an apartment where I'm looking to grow stealth. Already told my friends/roomies and they're cool with it. I'm just concerned about our landlady who may or may not come by every now and then to show apartment layouts to future tenants.

I'll be growing in a box in my closet most likely with a vertical height limit of around 3.5 to 4 feet. I'll probably be growing only 1 or 2 plants. Also, I'm on a bit of a budget, so I kind of want to use CFLs throughout the entire grow.

I'd like a strain that gives a good yield for it's size, is of decent potency, compact, can be ready for harvest fairly quick, and doesn't have crazy odor (although if I make a cheap DIY carbon filter, odor won't be too big of a concern for me).

I've been browsing around and researching a few different strains trying to figure out which would be best for my situation. I'm currently thinking about these strains:
-Northern Lights
-Northern Lights Autoflower (Anyone had any experience with this?)
-Lowryder #2 or Diesel Ryder
-Big Bud

Anyone have any input on these or have any other suggestions?

budget the free seeds and maybe bag weed seeds first grow. Learn from your mistakes and with your money buy very high quality seeds for the second grow. Genetics make a hugh difference in the end result.

Oh, Indicas are smaller plants.

Oh I've got the budget to buy seeds online. I'd prefer not to use bagseed since usually I don't even know what's in there. I just don't want to spend a lot on lighting, both the cost of the lights and the electric bill.

I went with Nirvana. Good seeds for cheap, imo. Shhh, don't tell brick top, .

Anyway, I got blackjack and chrystal first time around and wow, that blackjack is the real deal. Just trimmed some buds and it's a good high. Doesn't seem to smell too much when growing, either. The chrystal smells dank. I got 30 seeds for 70 bucks, including shipping.

Blueberry, AK47, any KUSH strain, Kali Mist or Gforce, all GREAT yield and QUALITY for a first time grower with not much work needed, dont even need nutes for em except maybe the kali mist. Molasses for the win!
I got all mine for Flying Dutchman company's website I'm sure you can get the same strains ells where but I cant vouch for those particular genetics.


Odor, most decent strains are going to smell.

I'm growing Nirvana's Northern Lights Auto flower fem. Its suppose to be great for begginers: small, dense buds, good yield, good thc levels, smell is almost oderless during flowering, and they take the heat better than most strains as well. Just started my grow so cant tell you how it turned out, but out of all the research I've done, everything pointed to the NL auto flower fem. Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestions. Yeah, unfortunately most of the nice potent strains are going to have that strong odor. I'm leaning towards the Northern Lights because of the low odor and their supposed newb-friendliness.
