Grafting Experiment 1

ok so today i cut to young plants for grafting and research first time around will be corn root graft cut the stalk of the baby corn and replaced with seedling hoping for rapid root growth hopefully resulting in more rapid plant growth i will update in 2 weeks as to weather or not this was a success :leaf: everything has gone well so far im 99% sure that corn and marijuana are not in the same family but worth a shot as a side experiment trying with bamboo as well (slow growing strain of bamboo) in hopes to get a faster growing plant to make a bamboo bong from :) if anyone has experince grafting please let me know if this has any shot of working

i have grafted with apple and pear trees but never with plants. generally it takes a whole season b4 i see any new growth from the graft. this is no issue in a tree as it lives many years and will continue to produce various apples from different branches but for a plant that only lives one season i have no idea. is the goal to grow multiple strains at once, to get faster growth, or to attempt to produce some strange hybrid plant?

goal is for any results above normal growth / yield
im hoping for the root system of the corn to take over from what iv seen corn grows extremely rapid and my main objective is to get that on a female plant plant grafts usally take 2 weeks before you see new growth

Why don't you just take a healthy and developed root system of a vegetating plant and use that as your host?

Kind of like how they do fruit trees? Hmm, that's good idea. Chop the stalk, then graft in not the plant still growing. If you could do it fast enough, it might work. Maybe if you id it underwater?

Yeah, no idea there man. I've never attempted grafting, but one of the other threads has inspired me to try making a four strain mother plant, with similar plant profiles to keep things easier. Here's hoping...

because it would defeat the purpose why cut a healthy plant in veg down just for that?
the purpose is to encourage rapid growth and i have found one that is sustaining life 12 hours after graft with a navy bean plant its in no way healthy at moment but it is alive and im sure the vigor will return within 1 - 2 weeks

I don't think thats what they were saying. At least what I thought was to run a plant all the way through flower, than when you cut it down, graft on another plant or two onto the trunk which has a nice large root system. That's what they do with fruit trees. You have graft the type you want onto a root stock. Same idea, you have a strong root system that you take off of your harvested plant and attach your new plants to.

interesting........so if im following u using corn? maybe you shuld find a fast growing plant in the mulberry family or hops type plant which is where i believe cannabis is classified under ill google somthin up

ok well i there are trees and vines the vines are closer to a marijuana plant. idont know if grafting makes any difference in genetics or how it will look but the vine make cone like buds.....also if u grafted will those characteristic be passed down?????

Just a suggestion, you might want to try something in the same family, the Cannabaceae. Among them are Humulus lupulus or hops.
