BILLINGS - Another city bans medical marijuana as citizen’s voice growing concerns over proper regulation. Great Falls city commissioners voted three to two last night for an outright ban on medical marijuana businesses.
Those voting for the ban said media coverage connecting medical marijuana to a rise in teen usage swayed their votes. Those opposed said prohibition rarely produces the intended effect.
Governor Brian Schweitzer said the letter of the law needs to match the spirit of the law, "what we've got here is thousands of people who like smoking pot now getting a card and I’m sure that wasn't the intention of the people who voted for it. We need to get this corralled so it's people who actually need to smoke marijuana getting it, not people who just like to smoke marijuana."
The Billings medical marijuana ad-hoc committee meets tomorrow at noon.
