Great Ideas/Inventions

I know this has happened to me a few times... I have a great idea for a new product and then 4-6 months later I see a commercial or hear about this product I thought of. Now why don't I patent these ideas?

Ever happen to anyone else?

I heard that if you wanted a "poor mans patent" you are suposed to mail your original idea paperwork to yourself and not open it...

Interesting... Might be the best 50 odd cents I could ever invest. I'll have to look into this if an idea ever arises again.
