Welcome to my grow journal!
In many of my posts, I will use • BULLET LISTS • at the top of each page to prevent anyone from having to read through conversational fluff if they don't want to. These bullets will contain highlights of each post for quick reference and to save you time! Hope they're helpful!!!

Thank goodness for the voters of my fine state who legalized recreational marijuana this year! Though it's not technically legal and on-the-books until July, 2015, our county prosecutor issued a statement that no marijuana-related "crimes" will be prosecuted so long as the grower/user operates within the confines of the new law. Woot! I used to grow medically in California, but unfortunately this state does not recognize a handful of perfectly valid conditions that herb helps with. < / end rant >. Anyway....
Since our state has legalized it, I want to honor our new freedoms by not pushing the limits. I intend to stay within my 4 plant maximum, but of course I want to have the biggest harvests possible. I also want to harvest with some frequency to keep the project interesting. I'm thinking about doing a staggered SCROG as it should theoretically allow for monthly harvests WITHOUT exceeding my plant limit. For example:
Here's a time chart for the visual type:

I have a 3ft wide x 2 ft deep x 6 ft tall cabinet that I built out of plywood, 2x4, and some pine boards that I had around the garage. Each compartment is 2x3x3--it is partitioned horizontally at the 3ft mark. The top box is set up for flowering, and the bottom is the mother/clones space. I'm running a DIY 150w HPS via cooltube with a lasko pivoting task fan (being replaced tomorrow by an S&P 100x) and a DIY scrubber. I'm growing Papaya and Northern Lights. Papaya is 8 days into flower and Northern Lights is around 50 days of vegging. I also took one clone of each, which are rooted and growing.
Overall I'm pretty happy with the setup, but I don't want to waste time. I am willing to make changes if they're truly worth it so long as they don't compromise the three S's: safety, security, simplicity. My current consideration is whether or not I should run this cycle with a 150w HPS, or if I should upgrade to a 250w? I'm hitting 5,000 lumens/sqft and 50w/sqft with this method. A 250w would allow me to make larger screens to maintain that lumen output. Larger screens, though, require more veg time. Would it make more sense to run a smaller, faster grow with the 150 and 1ft x 1.5ft screens, or a larger, slower grow with a 250 and screens around 2ftx1.5ft?

- Weed is now legal in my state! Max 4 plants. Must. Obey. law.
- DIY 2-room grow cabinet built, 2ft x 3ft x 6ft, FFOF soil + perlite (60/40)
- 1x150w for flower, 4x23w CFL for vegging
- Fan is S&P TD100x, powering diy cooltube, diy scrubber
- 4 plants total: Papaya (2) and Northern Lights (2)
- Papaya is 8 days into flower, NL is 50 days into vegging
- 2 clones, one of each. Both in vegging chamber
- QUESTION: Should I spring for 250W? Or stay the course?

- Keep one mom in vegging (opt for Northern Lights based on awesome growing characteristics) and take one clone at week 0 (done).
