Since its creation in the 2000s, Granddaddy Purple has been blowing smokers away with its striking purple buds, heavy indica stone, and delicious berry aromas. Now, Royal Queen Seeds offers a feminized version of this Californian icon, which I had to test out for myself!

Granddaddy Purple is 75% indica dominant and stems from Purple Urkle x Big Bud. I germinated my seeds as I always do, using the paper towel method, then proceeded to plant them in soil. After 2 weeks, I had 18 cm-tall plants with deep-green, fat-fingered leaves.

I left my GDP plants to veg for a total of 6 weeks and fed them once a week. Early on, I topped my plants and used LST to open up their canopy. By their final week of veg, my plants measured around 42 cm and looked super healthy. Before flipping them to bloom, I defoliated and pruned the lowest 20% of my plants.

Over the first 4 weeks of bloom, my plants stretched considerably, reaching heights of 80 cm. By week 9, the buds on all three plants had fattened up and boasted a frosty coating of resin as well as pretty pink and purple hues, so I gave them the chop.

Now to the really fun part—the taste test. As I broke apart a nug, my room filled with the sweet scent of berries, candy, and fruit. Within minutes of smoking, my body was warm and tingly, and a big smile formed on my face.

I think GDP is a 9/10 strain with versatile growth traits that'll please both novice and experienced growers.
