Grow room temp... too cold?

I'm wondering if its worthwhile to plug a space heater in briefly to keep temps up a little bit. Today, hour-by-hour temps were: (lights go on at 9pm and off at 9am)

9am: 73
10am: 70
11am through about 3pm: 68
4pm: 66
5pm: 65
6pm: 65
7pm: 63
8pm: 59
9pm: 57 (right before lights on)
10pm: 65
11pm: 69
midnight through 9am: between 70 and 74, depending on if intake/exhaust fans are on etc

I'm only really worreid about those high 50s numbers, other than that I'm sure they're okay. This hasn't been a problem previously, since its about as cold as it gets around here... i'm sure in a few weeks this won't be at all an issue.

Basically, is it worth plugging the space heater in from say 7-9pm to keep temps in the mid 60s or does it not matter? I was a bit more worried until I typed it up like that... figure its pretty unlikely an hour of high50s will do anything either way.

I don't think you need to worry about it. If you do chose to amend I would recomend a ceramic bulb. These screw right into light sockets and only produce heat (generally used in the pet trade). Pretty easy to attack one to a thermostat extension cord (also sold at pet stores) or just put on a timer.

I personally think Sad, you want to go with the heater right. I may be wrong but this is my advice to you:
you want that room to be as warm as possible and as well humidified even possibly de-humified depending on your grow conditions. if you go to your local hardware store and buy a moisture reader for soil cheaply sold places you wanna baby those plants as much as possible to get the best yield possible. oh ya and for knuckle head up there ^ get the heat up to a steady heat dont over heat it get it in the 25-30 area.

57" is pretty cold ,especialy if you got any seedlings or clones. I dont think it would kill em but it may slow em....

I use a space heater, they are touchy in little spaces.
They can burn pant 2 ft away, point em away from the plants

To large of temp swings can cause HEMIES.. I had 3x 2.mo old From seed Fem. plants turn hermie last week.... i was hitting 50-55 degrees at night.. and it ruined them

I live in Maine. It's been really cold here this winter. I have a room in the basement that I built for growing, and that's where I veg. I did build a heater into the room, but haven't used it this year (I did last year). The basement gets into the low 50s at night routinely. My plants are very healthy and robust.

I would recommend lights on in between 70-77 degrees Fahrenheit and no more than 15-18 degrees Fahrenheit difference during lights off. In my setup lights on are 76-77 degrees Fahrenheit and i keep it at 70 degrees Fahrenheit with lights off. When the lights are off at the temp is 70-71 it helps reduce inter node spacing so buds are more compact together.

I got down to 42f (6c) this run over winter (im in the southern hemisphere) with highs in the tent lucky to be around 64f (18c).
Was never a problem but was not ideal of cause. Just slower growth I think. This was in veg has warmed up a little in flower

Some way of heating would be better for you but it also comes down to cost to heat for some of us.

would you happen to have a link for these please?

I read something that terpenes combust starting at 70f and next set around 90f. I'd like to experiment with flower run at steady 65f vs 75-80f with lights on.

First off. This thread is 6 years old! None of those plants are around anymore, you think?

During colder months, I put my pots on hard blue foam squares. Insulates the pot from the now, too cold floor.

As for temps. Ever measure the temps at the roots? Then at the canopy? How about midway between the floor and the ceiling?

I want my ambient temps on the thermostat (central heat and air. AC is supplemented with a portable) at 72 -74. I strictly control that!
The canopy is about 90 and the pot level is about 68-69.
I control the RH to 40-45%.
I dial in at that environment and consistency is excellent! I hold 10-12 deg. night drop during winter. I have no problems with color expression in strains that can/do.

During lights on in winter. I cool the 24x12 bloom rooms by a greenhouse thermostat connected to the filtered air intake.

Instruction Manual T118P Plug-in ThermostatThis single stage thermostat comes prewired with an 8' grounded Plug-in power cord. Simply plug the thermostat into a standard 110/120 volt outlet. Then plug any 110/120 volt appliance into the outlet on the plug of the thermostat. Select "heating" thermostat below to control a heater or "cooling"thermostat to control fans or louvers.

This depends a lot on the type of lights in use. LED lighting actually prefers 82-85F daytime temperatures.

Furthermore, it's well known in other circles of agriculture that high nighttime temperatures can actually promote growth, so long as the plant's needs are met.
