I seem to be having a lot of negative feedback and arsed comments towards questions I’m asking I’m a young lad trying to learn the ropes and succeed we all started somewhere so here goes I have a 4ft by 4ft by 6ft tall grow tent my extraction and carbon filter is 4 inch and extracts 187m3 I have a secondary inline fan with no filter in case temps get a little high so I don’t have this on all the time as temps stay around 27-28 degrees in lights on I’m having no issues with smells or humidity or temperature I have 2 cfls for veg a 125w and a 250w I currently have 3 plants under these lights I’m switching to hps for flower iv been told 1 600w will be sufficient is my set up okay please leave me some good advice don’t need arsey comments thanks guys

Your 600-watt hps gives you 37.5 watts per sq ft. Which is adequate for what you're doing.
Thank you that’s great so even if I decided to put another 4-5 plants in my setup the one 600w would still be adequate also about my fan and filter like I say this is about 187m3 is this adequate with my secondary one in case of temp increases as at the moment I’m having no issues with temps or humidity

I wouldn't go more than 4 plants in a 4x4, and do plan on trying to keep them compact. I have a tent that's of similar square footage, and it does 4ish smaller plants just fine, but for anything that has a bunch of stretch it wouldn't be OK.

Filter will come into account once you get into flower...usually by about 2-3 week of flower things get pungent. In terms of the fan, usually best practices is to use a fan that has more capacity than your tent size, and note that your filter & any ducting will reduce the effective flow of your fan. Temps will become much more of a concern once you move from those CFLs though, and effectiveness in cooling will also depend on the temperatures (and humidity) in the space where your tent resides. I'm sort of unclear if you're planning on using your second fan as an inline booster on the same ducting as your main fan, a second exhaust fan, or you'd use it as an intake fan, so that could be useful or not.

I have my fan and filter on constant when lights are on and if temps get out of control I turn the secondary extractor on to keep temps under control I’ll invest in a bigger fan and filter for flower

That rhino filter should have 600m3/h and will be a good match for that Fan.
Great yet again I appreciate your help I’ll order them this week then will get my 600w hps in there aswell if I was to switch to a dual spec hps within the next I could continue to use that all the way through flowering?

You can veg with just a normal HPS.

dual spec gives you a better spectrum but you can veg and flower fine with just standard HPS.

That’s great atleast my hps will sorta be a one stop light all the way through from what iv heard about hps they need to be fairly high due to the heat so keep the hps pretty high you’d say?

Don’t forget the basics.

Hang fan and filter inside tent.

use ducting from filter to fan

Use ducting from fan out of the tent and out of the room with the tent in it! Out of a window, through into another room, into a well ventilated attic space etc.

if you dump your exhaust into the room with the tent inside your temps will just increase and increase.

HPS should be between 12-18” away from the canopy or the plants.

as yours are now I would start at 24” and look to get it lower until you reach that sweet spot.

I already have my current fan vented out of the room my tents in it vents into the attic space so that’s that take care of

Just make sure you don’t have any tight bends in the ducting etc.

every 90 degree bend reduces fan efficiency by 10%.

Every 5m run of ducting reduces efficiency by 10%.

Adding a carbon filter reduces efficiency by 20%.

With my current set up as there’s a vent in the top of the tent it comes through that straight above the tent into the loft space so bends and ducting runs are at a minimal I appreciate all the help can’t wait to have my set up finally finished enough to get some good results my girls look happy at the present they’re a good 2-3 ft tall I’m impressed how’s the Covid treating you

I’ll get a picture posted once the other half wakes up I’m at work could this mean I maybe need to top them? To get them more bushy rather than taller I understand your working with nothing without the pictures but I will post within the next hour

It could mean that those CFL’s are too far away.

hang on let me show you my 200w CFL with my plants when I was vegging them in my secret walkway.

This is 200w CFL hanging above my 2 plants.

You tell me if yours are as close as CFL’s are only good up to around 8” away from plants.
