Grow Tent 1.2m Advice Pls

Hello


I am going to starting a 1m2 or 1.2m2 tent with a 600w HPS (with cooltube). Tent will be inside a smallish bedroom next to a window. From what I have read the 5" extraction/carbon filter kit will be sufficient (pumping the hot air outside) and a 4" intake fan (taking air into tent from bedroom). 3-5 plants inside.


I have a few questions:


1. How much noise can be expected from this system? Is a digital ballast quieter than a normal one? How about the intake/extractor fans - any they noisy? Anything can be done to reduce the noise? Will it be possible to sleep in the same room?


2. Assuming the system has the 5" carbon filter installed will there be much of a smell problem from your experience? Will the bedroom where the tent is smell? Will it be necessary to put an ona odor smell control block in the bedroom?


3. Will the cool tube really make that much difference?

depends on brand of filter a good cf works very well
didgi ballasts are silent
and insulated ducting is a good idea fans range in sound normally rated in db on the box

insulated ducting is alot extra money for not alot of good, you wont mind the slight purr of the fans when yor harvesting lol, and you get cooled box reflector that do the same job as a cool tube but spread the light better im using a 6"cooltube but gettin rid of it and getting the cooled box reflector since i saw how much better they are

1.) they make some noise, but as some allready said, some insulated ducting do help IMO and is not expensive, if its still to much you can buy silenter for em or you can build a DIY box for the ventilation a insulated wooden box will take a lot of the noise

2.) my carbon filter remove most smell (99%) they are very effective (tho some really cheap once don't work that well I have been told)
so unless you don't even smoke inside it will be enough as the little smell is`t worse ..

3.) yes it will, as somebody allready said a cool hood would be better for spreading the light out (footprint) but cool tube or hood it is a lot more easy to keep temps with in ranges for a more trouble free grow, IMO a really good move, specially since you also are able to keep the light much closer and that really do make a big different on the Buds (I can keep my 600W at 12-15" before with out a cool hood I had it 18-20" away)

are you talking about an air cooled hood?

i have both air cooled hood and cool tube and i like the cooltube design much better.

yes you will need some air cooled unit in a tent that small as heat will surely be an issue.

as long as you keep negative pressure in the tent and the only air coming out is filtered you shouldnt have much smell issues.

5 plants is alot for a 1.2m2 you will find yourself overcrowding and having to implement training techniques in order to keep them all happy.

the fan will be the biggest noise maker but if its in between the carbon filter and light in the tent the sound will be cut down quite a bit.

plant number is relative to flip time i run 9 plants under 1 light

yea I have both grow two big plants with a +8 week`s Veg time in 7 gallon pots and 4 plant in 5 gallon with a 4 week Veg time under my 600W, and Im about to make a 9 plant Sea of Green in there now ..

well i use insulated ducting for extraction and normal stuff for intake and i cant tell any maor difference and i payd more than 3x the price for the insulated stuff so a waste of money in my opinion but each to there own and every little helps if you have the cash to throw around

yeah cool hood sorry lol, well thats your opinion i use both cooltube and a cooled hood aswell and i prefer the hood much better light distribution the cooltube isnt bad ust much preffer the hood design thats what the pros use so thats what ill be using getting rid of the cooltube for a second hood after harvest

The cooltube might look nicer, but it has terrible coverage. It's all about getting the most from your lights. Cooltubes won't do that.

If your light is on and the tent is open you will be blasting bright light that will be readily visible through your window. It will look odd unless you cover your window with something opaque.
