Grow tent exhaust

I am new to growing and just got a grow tent but I have been having heat and humidity problems so I just got a fan for exhaust and was wondering how long it should be on for I've read that every 3 minutes is good but all the timers I've found only goes up to 24 programmable timers so that would be on twice an hour for 12 hours but how do I set up the exhaust fan to come on every 3 minutes

Get yourself a double pole thermostat. Wire it with a male plug for your power in and an outlet on the cooling side for power out. Plug your fan into it and set the temperature. Mount the thermostat around the level of your canopy and it will keep your girls happy.

I'm back with with a couple more questions. At amazon i found a century digital cooling thermostat controller for cooling device between 40-108F so I was wondering if this will work on my exhaust fan to keep the humidity and temp right and will this setup keep the fan from being on all the time for electric bill purposes

just leave it on 24/7. unless you are pulling cold outside air into it. then plug it into the same timer as your lights.

Well I was hopping to save on the electric bill so I was wondering if the temperature thermostat I mentioned above would make the exhaust fan come on a couple or like three times an hour instead of being on all the time and keep my temp and humidity right because when i turn it on just for a few minutes the temp and humidity are just right

If you're using a tent, expect some serious stank. you need to exhaust 24/7 with the first thing being a Carbon filter that your tent air is going through. hang it inude the tent. create negative pressure so when you zip it up, the walls suck in slowly, but firmly. either use a smaller 4":fan connected directly into a central air vent blowing air in 24/7 (reccomended as it's filtered, fresh, outside air) or open a mesh flap on the bottom of the tent.

The thermostat will work to keep your temperature where you want it and by exhausting hot air you will be exhausting humidity but you would need to have a separate fan setup on a humidistat or a dehumidifier and/or a humidifier to control your humidity. And yes any exhaust should have a carbon filter to control smell.

Thanks I have a 4 inch exhaust fan ,a oscillation fan inside the tent and I have all the mesh vents on the sides open for passive intake oh and I do have a carbon filter on the inside

Would putting a speed controller on the fan setting it to low and leaving it on all the time help. You say only a few minutes and room is perfect, is that at full power, would constant on low speed fan keep room right?

And a tip for you, if you do use a thermostat mounted near the plants, watch out for the light, the heat from the lights beaming down on the thermostat can heat it up and make it trigger not right. I put a little piece of corragated plastic on top the thermostat as a 'hat'.
