Grow Tent | Pirate Box - Air Flow Problem

Hey guys! I've just bought a grow tent and I have a clip-fan 18W. Inside as now is summer it gets up to 30*C without lights on and around 34-35*C with lights on. Now I wonder, where should I put this fan to? Should I open tent side/top holes for air income? Basically can someone explain me how should the air flow work to keep the great temps?

Here is the tent I've got :)

I got 400W HPS for flower and MH for veg.

Thank you for all help in advance and looking forward for a good growth :)

Happy growing!

Your passive ventilation (no fan) should be the bottom, and you should vent out the top.

You should have the vent going scrubber->duct->light->duct-> fan-> vent

You can have the fan inside, or outside of the tent (I like it out since I have space concerns, but inside may be quieter/easier)

I think what OP is saying is that he doesn't have an inline fan as of yet, just a small clip-type desk fan.

You want to exhaust the hot air out the top of the tent, and let passive air come in from the bottom (hot air rises).

With those temps and that light, you really need something a lot larger to replace air... a 440 CFM inline with carbon filter works nicely with the setup you have.

ps. and yes, most definitely run your lights outside the hottest time of the day (12-6pm where I am).

Thank you very much both of you! :D I have just one more specific question about passive air at bottom, should I open both bottoms or just one? And where exactly should I put the clip-fan I have right now?

I understand things much better now :D But is carbon filter necessary or is it just for smell? Thanks!

Put the fan inside the tent, and force it to blow outwards through one of the top holes/ports. This fan won't suck much air through so it doesn't really matter how many you open, but the rule is that you want more exhaust than intake as to create a negative vaccuum.

I'd open both, and actually put another external fan blowing at one of the intake ports, just so that you have air movement.

Make any sense?

If you have an inline, I would just use the clip on to circulate air around the plant, the inline fan will pull air in from the lower passive vents. As far as if you need one or both open, it depends on the size and speed of your inline fan. Try to stay away from the "duct boosters" they do not work for shit. Here is what I use and I love it with a speed controller.

Ok so If i understood right, I put 1 clip-fan inside the tent at bottom to blow air to top, another fan outside to blow air at intake and 1 inline-fan to suck air from top out? Do you think this would be good? http://www.hempatia.si/inline-mixed-flow-fan-tt-100 And a air duct hose connect to this inline fan.

Thanks!
If you're going to buy an inline, buy one that is a combo with a 6" carbon filter as well. You absolutely need to invest in this. You won't even need any other fans with this setup in the tent you have.

For what you have now, do this:

- one clip fan inside the tent at the top, blowing air out one of the top vent holes
- another fan outside of the tent blowing air into the bottom intake

I'll sub to this thread then later I'll take some pics of what I mean inside one of my tents.
