Suppose I grow on a hillside in a river valley would it be wiser to plant on the east side of the river or the west side? I'm in the midwest if that matters at all too. Thanks for any help

west, you want as much direct morning light as you can get. puts the plant in gear like a cup of coffee. :)

the ideal location is a southern facing hillside. the sun comes up in the east and goes down in the west. draw a straight line. now put plants parrallel to this line. the tilt of the earth puts the sun on the south so put the plants on the northern side of the line. this way they will get the most available sunlight.
