my friend told me about one of his friends who apparently stole numerous headlights from cars, the HID lights that glow sort of blue..he claims that since the colors are higher in the spectrum (about 5k he said) it works very well for growing...is this a load of bull, or is he on to something?

It's possible but probably not very practical. You'd need a high current 12 volt power supply to make them work. There's other lights that one can use without being a car part thief.

You could easily find out by checking out the kelvin spectrum of the car head light, however for some reason this seems like some snake oil pitch. Even if they were the right spectrum you would need a hella lot of them; car head lights arnt actually that big or powerful. I wouldnt start stealing car lights if i were you, might as well stick to whats been proven.

those lights have a ballast inside the engine compartment to run them so ....... I doubt it. Also it would require you to open the hood to unscrew the light assembly out to get out the head lights so ..... I double doubt it. That is that he stole them.
