Hanna PH Tester trouble?

I recently purchased one of the $35 red Hanna ph testers and when my reservoir is fairly clear the PH tester will read while it's in the water, but since I'm using Botanicare Organic Nutes, the water it pretty murky and the meter will not read while it is submerged and inch or so! It will only start reading when you pull it out of the Nutrient water! When I put it in the water it just shows a "1" and it only starts reading when It is pulled out. I'm not sure if I'm getting an accurate reading or not and It's starting to frustrate me!! I also have ph strips for back up but I want to be more precise with my readings!! Is anyone familiar with this problem or is this something normal with ph testers in murky water? Thanks!!

I have the same meter,I dont use organic nutes either but mine said it was calibrated before they shipped it,well it wasnt I should have checked it when I first got it.but anyway when I pull my meter out it usually drops,I dont want to sound like a smart ass but your not trying to use it with the rubber cap on the end are you?if the probe isnt submerged you are not getting an acurate reading. good luck
