Harvest window: early vs. late?

I like the cerebral highs, so I generally like to harvest in the earlier stages of ripeness(milky trichs). I'm wondering though, what kind of variance in yield there is if letting them go to the later, amber stages. How much do buds bulk up in those 2-ish weeks? Am I getting significantly less yield by harvesting early? Just wondering if anyone has experimented with this...

One grow I had the molasses didn't kick in on the plant I left for late harvest until the last two weeks or so. Overall I guess I didn't yield but a few more grams dry but if you are the stoner type later is better
