How's it going folks? I'm proud to announce that my gnats are gone this morning.

Sorry about the lighting but I figure if I'm not asking for leaf diagnostics why not?

So, if you care to know more about the situation, here's the deal. I didn't know anything about root rot. The only thing I've ever heard is not to over water but no one gave a reason as to why. Back when I transplanted to the 3 gal buckets I noticed one of my plants smelled bad like sulfur. At the time I just figured it was from the miracle grow potting mix and whatever they put in it. My other plant had no smell but was growing in miracle grow performance organics so I just let the situation go.

About a week later I noticed the first flying bug so I looked up how to take care of it. Most of the suggestions on here are to use natural insecticides and fungicides but users were still reporting burns from using them as well one user reporting that neem made his weed taste like baby diaper. Finally, I found the suggestion to use hydrogen peroxide in a diluted solution as it is not a chemical and kills the root fungus that gnats eat. I applied a 1:1 solution of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide and RO water with no pH modifications. I didn't have any playground sand or sticky traps and didn't feel like driving to the store so I just wrapped aluminum foil around the pot to contain the adult gnats. I left it like that for 1 week and today there were no more gnats even after agitating the pot. The foil wrap contained quite a bit of moisture so I won't be watering until next week. As an added bonus the Hydrogen Peroxide aerated my soil and new growth is coming in kush like a lettuce head.

In conclusion, I recommend hydrogen peroxide to anyone dealing with fungus gnats or compacted soil from incorrect watering technique. You will not burn or kill your plant and the end result will not have any added flavors or odors.
