Head Light Flashing not against the law...

Headlight Flashing...Warn others there is a Speed Trap, or Radar Trap ahead....
Just like yelling to your buddy: "The cops are on the way..."

Jonathan Turley, a criminal attorney and a professor at George Washington University Law School, said courts across the country are dealing with the same issue. In virtually every case except those still being decided, the person cited has prevailed, Turley said.
"This has sweeping implications for the First Amendment," Turley said. "What this citizen is doing is warning other citizens about the violation of law. People regularly warn others about the possibility of arrest. There's no difference between a verbal warning and a mechanical warning. Both are forms of speech."

Back in the day....

I lived in Brea, and drove south through Placentia, every day on way to work at shop in Anaheim...

I got two radar tickets... over a year... 5 am no traffic... it's hard to keep a low speed...

Anyway, one day during the day light... I pas a Radar Trap in Placentia, on way to a fast food joint at lunch...
So, I double back... and I legally park... and get out of my truck, and hold my sign:

SPEED TRAP AHEAD !!!


I was there for at least 15 minutes, flashing drivers my sign...well...all of a sudden a Placentia PD Black and White drives up.....
Screechh....
"Hey man, what are you doing"

"Sir... I am trying like you are to get drivers to slow down"

"Let me see your sign.... give me your Licence ... I'll be right back..."

Of course I am not going to stop across the street from the Placentia City Hall and hold up a sign speed trap...
If I have any warrants or other such issues on my record...

"Get out of here.... you don't even know what a speed trap is...."

When heading up to the local ski resort in Boise, ID I used to hold my hand out the window and hold up 5 fingers then a fist to symbolized 5-0 to cars heading down after I passed a cop.

I road bikes since i could legally drive, our universal symbols for "police ahead" is tapping on the top of our helmet with our palm. Most cagers i try to warn probably don't know what im doing.
