Hey All,
New to the site, lurked a bit before joining.
Midwest USA.
So I didn't smoke at all before I saw it had a chance to become legal in my state. It had been a decade probably since I last smoked.
I have never successfully kept a plant alive, so I did some research before buying any equipment. Settled on Soil, something I could expand upon for general gardening and outdoors. I could eventually grow my own inputs for the soil so I am fully self sufficient for the grows.
Binged BuildaSoil videos for a month. Soaked up what I could from other suggested sites for newbs.
Seeds. I grabbed some wedding cake from seedstockers and a few others off of NASC. I quickly expanded my collection from there.
Out of the first 3 wedding cake seeds I popped over a year ago, I still have the keeper alive and floating around my grow circle. I have a diary of that grow on growdiaries and man that thing is invincible.
Story time:
My first grow went well enough. Got 1 lb from 3 plants in a 4x4. Threw 5oz for bud rot. Lesson learned.
But all while those wedding cakes were growing, I took a bunch of clones of each. I also popped a random bag seed a few weeks before the clones were taken.
But I only had 1 tent and 1 light. What did I do? I just left the 7 plants out in the basement under a crappy light with around 300 PPFD at best. It was cold and the humidity was low, like 30% or less.
The bag seed exploded with growth, blocking all the light out. For weeks they sat and limped on, until the new tent and light came. I placed all 7 into the new 2x2 and set up the light. A week went by and there was no improvement, despite my help. So I gave up. I turned the lights to 24 hrs and left them, just let them sit untouched for 2 weeks.
I think the bag seed could've made it, but there were only 2 survivors in the clones, I culled the rest. 1 from #1 and another from #3. #3 perked up after giving it some water and attention, #1 did not. I set #3 on the soil of the earthbound and it grew from there, never moving, until I chopped it. As a bonus, I accidentally flipped the light to 24 hours on instead of 12/12 for two weeks. The Wrap Up:
Well I have a few more grows under my belt since then, and my setup has changed a bit. My setup now consists of a clone/mother 2x2.5 ft tent, 4x4 ft tent, and a 5x5 ft tent.
Ill need to get upgraded lights for the 4x4 eventually, but I have 2 ACI T22's in there. It has only been used as a dry tent before this, so it is just getting up and running alongside the 5x5.
In the 5x5 I will be using the 680w 6-bar Mint White LED (non-canna version, OG) from Mammoth Lighting. Love this light.
