Help!-1,000w HPS

hey yall i just got a 1,000 watt hps for free and im always broke so im stuck with it and im only growing one plant in a pretty small closet so i have some sh!t on my mind please give me some pro opinions

-is 1,000w hps too much, i only got a very small fan so will it fry my plant?
-how high should i det it above my plant?
-will the heat set my f%cking house on fire?
-1,000 watters easily detectible by cops
-Does any one have any suggestions i might be able to set it up in the middle of my bedroom during the day?

Please help me im stuck in a pickle

1000 watts is not too much though you could grow many more plants with that light. You could probably get by with a 250 watt hps or cfls for one plant. Maybe you could trade it at the hydro shop.

As far as heat, it will be a problem. You need to address good ventilation.

As long as your house electric is up to code and the light is UL approved there should be no fire hazard as long as you use good judgement.

The rule of thumb on detection is -
Never steal electric and you can have 1000 watts of light for every bedroom the house has.

We need info man. How big is your closet and how tall is your plant currently? Also do you have any way of exhausting heat from your closet? 1000 watts will usually be too much for a closet unless you can get some good exhaust.
