I am planning to start a one plant grow lab using CFL's. Any help or tips would be greatly apprecated. I mainly need help with how many CFL's I will need like, would maybe around...3-4 combined with the reflector cone directed at the plant at a distance of about..say...4-6" be okay?

Ya Bro i have 12 plants that are on there 4th day of flowering and im using 12x 27watt 2700k lights realisticly it should be like a 2:1 ratio but i actually ended up with more germed seeds then i expected... When you start your Veg do a 18-6 light cycle if only 1 plant then i would still use about 4x 27watt 5000k-6500k lights the more the better especialy with CFL and then in 4-5 weeks i would switch to 12/12 light cycle and replace those 5000-6500k lights with 2700k lights... this is my current set up... Hit me up if any more questions good luck...

Go with 35-40 watt CFLs if poss. Maximum lumenage is the goal. 3-4 should work well enough for just one plant. From seed veg for about 4-6 weeks (incl. slow seedling stage first 3 wks.) Then go to 12/12. Make sure no light whatsoever enters the box when the lights are off. Don't even peek at them briefly during their night time or it will stall the bloom for weeks afterward. Ultimately if possible I'd go with a 150 watt HPS security style light during the bloom stage. The HPS is brighter and the color spectrum is more conducive to bigger, more potent and tastier buds. The CFLs do work better than HO tube flours and like the above pictures show, should be kept no more than 6-8 inches above the plant tops. But the HPS rules (@ appx. 9-12 inches above tops) in the bloom dept. for best results.

Okay, So im going to go to the store here soon to pick up 23w cfls at 5000k. and 23w cfls at 3000k. Im growing only one plant, so if I run 2-3 of the 5000k and 1-2 3000k for the seedling/veg life, and switch over to 2 3000k bulbs and 1 5000k for the budding stage. Sound okay? As far as "aiming" and reflecting light, will the portable work lamps work? http://www.lowes.com/ProductDisplay?partNumber=203198-1373-FL-200NPDQ12&langId=-1&storeId=10151&productId=3122289&catalogId=10051&cmRelshp=req&rel=nofollow&cId=PDIO1

those r kinda too bulky at the hood, ur gonna need to get them real close and cfl's spread most of their light out from the sides. i kno because the reflectors on my lights ended up sitting in my closet collecting dust :) you don't want to block any of the light. get the y connectors and the light clamps that you can adjust. Growing with cfl's is all about adjusting those lights :)

and it's all a matter of preference on what type of light to use too....cool white vs warm white. i agree it's good to provide a mixed spectrum at the same time respecting your lighting schedule. i personally use 7 cool white 23w and 5 warm white 23w for my veg on a 18/6. I kinda use the 2 different options to maintain my temps also (gets real cold here....brrrrrrr).
