I have had my plants now for around a week.. i just bought 2 new cfls.. one 300w red and one 300w blue, but i only have a 125w cfl reflector/hanger.. i wanted to test one of the cfls to see if they would fit and work, as i turned it on the bulb came on for a split second and a little pop was heard.. now nothing works in my reflector, anybody got any ideas on how i should go about this as i dont have much time? :/

thanks..

So someone maybe correct me but it sounds like a fuse has blown, have you checked the fuse? If not the fuse I wouldn't know as I aint had that problem :D
Good luck though !

you probably over heated the ballast inside that reflector by putting a size that isnt suited for that reflector in it..
you may just have to purchase a reflector made for a 300w bulb

good point i completely forgot about the fuse.. but if it was just the fuse.. your lucky you can replace it.. but if you put a 300w back in a 150w reflector you'll just re-pop the fuse again
the circuitry wasn't designed to supply power to a 300w

lol. simple math.. if your hood is rated for 150watts and you put 300 watts in there of course it's going to blow. They sell different rated wattage hoods for a reason or everyone would buy the cheapest hood and run what ever bulb in them.

If you're not an electrical engineer to trouble shoot the blown ballast then time to buy new.

i thought it was just a reflector with an e40 fitting? so what your saying is.. if i was to get any old e40 fitting for my 300w bulb, it wouldnt work? ide have to get a 300w e40 fitting? :S
