HELP! Super Lemon Haze, incredibly Frosty and Dank, but starting to smell like hay...

Super Lemon Haze - Incredibly Frosty and Dank, but starting to smell like hay during cure. Plants chopped at 9 weeks, trichs were 90% milky, 10% clear. Insane smell, incredibly frosty. Trimmed bud branches were hung in dark, well ventilated and filtered room in low 70s temps at 50 - 55% humidity for approx 10 - 12 days until stems started getting "snappy". Put them in freezer bags about 36 hours ago with lots of burping. Last night, they changed and started taking on a grassy, hay type smell. I know that glass jars are ideal for curing, but we've grown and cured TONS of buds over the years with freezer bag cures and everything has been fine. We simply have too much to do all jar cures.

Would appreciate any input as to WTF is going on and what we can do to salvage the situation.

Thanks in advance.

Was from sealed CO2 room, have grown it before. They were done and flushed for 10 days. Even Arjan on Greenhouse's website says SLH can be taken as early as 8 weeks in a sealed CO2 room. Medicropper on YouTube has taken them at 9 weeks on several of his videos.

Also, as stated, trichs were milky, even ambers showing on underside of sugar leaves.

yea buddy, I'm here.
Give them a week more in open air, like in a wood box, or a dresser.
That's what SLH kinda smells like when its done though. Or at least what I have. I walked to the fridge and took a whif to check. If you think its bad let it air out for 3 days, then throw it back into a jar. Have you smoked any of it? Whats your flavor like?

Haven't smoked any yet. Won't that dry them out too much and prevent the jar/bag curing process?

Need input folks.

everytime i get that smell is because i trimmed while it was still wet and haddnt removed the chlorophyll naturally thruout the plant and it gets stuck in the plant cause of all the open cuts u made ... or sumthin like that im high or it was early.
and now i hang plant as is and then trim right before it gpes into jars and havnt had a prob with smell

I would try 5 days to a week in paper grocery sacks with the tops loosely rolled over in a cool dry dark place.

I hear people saying that the Saught after Keeper Pheno Finishes in 60 days No Problem. From what I've heard the Super Lemon is not typical Haze.....

Yeah, our "yellow" phenos (taller, stretchier, rock hard buds) were done before the shorter, stockier "white" pheno. The yellows appeared to be done at 8 weeks, but we let both run through to 9 weeks. With the amount of milkiness of trichs and the ambers even forming on the underside of the sugar leaves, we knew they were ready.

Back to original topic, thoughts on the smell? There seems to be some improvement in a couple of the jars, but in previous grows, it smelled incredible from grow, to cut, to cure, to smoke...all the way.

I run SLH 9.9 weeks. I've had this problem once, and I think it was due to over-drying. The internal humidity of the bud can drop too quickly, which causes the over drying.

Too bad, because properly cured SLH smells like heaven.

Very strange because we have been drying in dark room at 55% or so humidity at low 70sF for about a week now, branches still not snapping, but getting closer. I've dried SLH quicker before and this didn't happen....weird.

That sucks SLH smells awesome when dried and cured properly.. I ran mine a few years ago to 10 weeks.. My guess is maybe you didnt let the buds dry enough? I have only gotten the 'hay smell" once on some white Russian and it was due to not drying my plant properly.

I hear ya. I don't know if it has to do with weather affecting ambient humidity or what, but I've had different results with seemingly the same methods... it's a mystery. How did SLH yield for you? I'm discontinuing it because it was a little too light for me.

"Light"? Do you mean the buds were too light or the high was too light? We did a pheno hunt from 30 seeds and narrowed it down to 3 (now 2). One is incredibly dense with rock hard nugs. The other is a bit more fluffy, but it has purple coloration and looks incredible. The smell is improving after some further curing and burping. We've been tweaking the dehumidifier and temps and hope we're a little more dialed in now. We will see. As far as yield....that remains to be seen.

Good news to report. The first plant we did was a wet trim down to individual buds because the plant appeared to be finishing early and actually starting to cannibalize...it had not had time to get fully flushed like the remaining plants. The remaining plants were allowed to go 65 -70 days and we have been hanging full, large branches. The results are incredible. The first ones to have dried (after 8-9 days hanging) were getting snappy and have been bagged and jarred. Each day the smell is getting better and better. Amazing results. Our "white" pheno actually turned out to be a 60% purple strain (which I didn't even know there was an SLH pheno that purpled). It literally has clear nectar globules oozing from the polyps. It tastes like the finest honey and we actually dabbed some last night, not knowing what to expect. A small globule bubbled up with the smallest amount of heat and was mostly chronic vapor. Have never seen or heard of anything like it. Still in awe. Gonna try to get a video of some of it...stunning. Things have definitely turned around since the original post.

sounds good! Super lemon haze actually does REALLY well outdoors by the way, perfect type of structure and grows up pretty big and st@nky

The only times I've ever had my buds smell like hay is when I jumped the gun and stuck them in the jar a little too most. Its happened a couple times and both times it was the same thing.
