I burned out my intermatic heavy duty timer and a power strip, almost burned down my house!. What timers are recomentded for high voltages and where can I get them. Also any electricions our there know how many joules i need in a power strip in order to run a box fan a dayton blower and my 1000W Hps off of.

Use the best timers, there are some that are extremely expensive and well built.

That last post made me laugh ......and still laughing...cant type:mrgreen:

You need a heavy duty power strip, not the x-mas lite special. It will cost $30 - $50. It will have a rating on the side of the unit. You want a sustained rating at 1500 watts or above. The problem also may be the rating of the circuit it is on. A lighting circuit, with several lites, cannot take the added load of another 1500 watts. So you will likely need one power strip from one circuit and a second power strip from a second circuit. That way you will "balance" the load and reduce amperage pull.

And while you are working on this project, make sure the extention cord is #14 or #12 wire. Smaller the number, the bigger the wire. These cords can get warm so keep them up in the air. Do not let them stay on the floor, under a rug, and get hot.

Finally, you want power strips that are higher wattage or higher amperage, not higher voltage. Dayton makes good stuff, APC (for computers) is also excellent.
