Help with seedlings

I put them in medium do I need to cover them

No they don't need to be covered. You need to bring the temperature down though.

You don't need the light till they germinate, if that's a sealed closet aim the fan to blow air out and leave the door open if there's no extractor fan.

New seedlings don't need much light at all, indirect light is best until the first set of leaves have formed.
Seedlings also don't need food until the cotyledon start to yellow/shrivel.

I usually germ at 78-80 but this last set of seeds I just planted sprouted in less than 24 hours at 83 degrees, fastest sprouts I can recall. I'd try to get the temps down a little, but honestly, it's probably fine. Just make sure they don't dry out. So what? There's tons of others that say plant directly. Paper towels are a waste of time. Those convoluted instructions are ridiculous. I don't care where they come from.

1000 ways to skin a cat but if it works it works!

I've had 100% success using that method and can't say I've had as good of luck skipping the paper towel. Not saying it can't be done but that works good enough for me that I have no reason not to keep doing it.

I'm saying there are other breeders that say to plant directly and recommend against using paper towels. Just because someone says to do something one way and it works doesn't mean it's necessary. If someone wants to do all that then fine. I just stick mine in dirt or coco and have sprouts in a few days.

There are some species where pre-germination and special methods are required for success. Cannabis isn't one of them.

This. If you don't have to run through all the rigmarole and they germinate just fine in soil and you're eventually going to plant in soil...just do it. I've done papertowel germination for cold stratified seeds but honestly the best method I've had for cold stratification is 'sealed in damp vermiculite'. Plenty of seed outlets say to skip the paper towels and I understand why...there's room for human error in handling the germinated seed, etc. and is another stage for people to botch up. I think people like the paper towel thing because they only have to wait a day or two for 'action' rather than 3 days for the new growth to peep out of soil.

Y'all haven't lived until you have a plant that needs 3-4 months of cold stratification in your fridge until you can even put the seed in soil.

Root Riot plugs are great. I use a dome until the seeds start sprouting, just to keep the plugs from drying out too quickly. I'm having near 100% success with both seeds and clones.
