Help with the NUTRIENTS

Hello everyone, i'm sure this is a stupid question but i have never grown with hydro before and i want to know how you control the nutrients. Like how much you put in and do you just keep it the same amount in through the whole cycle. I want to do a vertical flood growing setup like Heaths Robinson did and i know in his set up he changed the water every two weeks. I know you want to keep the PH around 6.5, does that mean you just keep adding more nutrients until it gets there? Im Sure this is all stupid questions but i guess i have to start someone where. Ppm/ ec meters read how much nutes are in your water. Start reading up on total dissolved solids or parts per million
