Here it goes

So basically, in a few short days I plan to recieve a variety of seeds. They've accumulated over a bit of time and I would estimate there being about twenty or so of them.

I've been reading thread after thread, article after article, trying to obtain as much information as I can about growing these puppies outdoors. This would be my first time doing this, so of course I have a few concerns and would greatly apprciate any advice, really.

What I had planned to do was allow the seeds to germinate, of course, in my room in some small cups of soil. After a week, or however long it takes for the majority of seeds to sprout, I have my first concern.

How long can I keep them until the smell begins to grow pretty noticeable. I, unfortunately, don't have a place of my own :(

With that question set aside, I figured it would be a week or two until the vegetation stage would kick in. I'm wondering how long I have until I would need to relocate them to the outdoors.
(Up until then, I have an old glass cage with a heat lamp. Not sure what the specifics of the lamp are, but I'll find out and let everyone know. Figured I could stash them there and give them some heat and nutes.)

Once they started to really begin to grow I figured I could move 'em to a chosen spot. I haven't found a spot yet, but I know of quite a few places that offer a lot of remoteness and sunlight. I'm willing to spend some moneyz to help the little plants grow.

With all that out there, I would appreciate any advice. Should I invest in some 5 gal buckets and potting soil? Feel free to list some brands, hahah.

usually once the plants hit the flowering stage that is when you notice a smell. if you are going to do an outdoor grow make sure to place your plants in various spots do to intruders and pests! good luck growing dude!

Thanks, man. Hahh, so there might be a few more seeds than expected...

Anyone know how many seeds fit into a cigar tube..? It's packed..

dont put them under a heat lamp. put them under some compact floresents,or some tube floros like t-8s or t-5s they dont need heat keep them beetween 70-80 degrees if you can. as for pots the bigger the better but putting them straight into holes dug in the ground is best yet for the big plants.

Alright, small update.

Started germinating last night. I tried a few different methods.

Method 1: (six seeds)
I took a small glass and barely put water in it.
I folded up a paper towel containing the six seeds and gently put it into the glass (nice fit) so it absorbed the water evenly.

Method 2: (six seeds)
I folded six seeds into a paper towel and dripped some water onto it, to moisten it up a bit. Then, I put it inside of a video game case and has been by my lamp, which can warm up a little bit, on my desk.

Method 3: (three seeds)
I read this up somewhere and just figured I'd try it. Plopped each seed into a seperate glass containing room temp. bottled water. Supposedly, the next day the seed is supposed to sink, and when it does, it's time to move into soil. So we'll see how it goes.

Hope to see some seeds sporuting within the next few days!

Try to avoid the heat lamp, try to invest in some CFLs or something. But why would you want to keep them inside as long as possible? I would rather get them out as quick as possible. Anyways for the smell, i actually found that when the plant gets around a foot tall that is when i could smell it in my whole room, and since you don't live alone i would put it outside when it is like 5"-6". Good luck.

I've been thinking about the grow lately and quickly realized I'm not close to being ready.

I've got plenty of seeds and an established way to germinate them. What i'm worrying about is basically the soil, nutes, and a few specifics. I found some miracle grow oragnic soil. Not too sure if I want to use it though, seeing that it's miracle grow.

Sooo... here's a list of questions.. :D

1. What sort of soil should I use? I know a lot of growers say to stay away from miracle grow, but the only places I really have to buy soil from is Lowes and Wal Mart. Both of which didn't really have much of a variety. I'll check again, but for the most part, a lot was Scotts, Miracle Grow, and something else.

2. Nutrients. I'm not really sure if there are any favorite brands that I should keep an eye out for. I've read that it's good to just water the plants with distilled water or tap water that has been set out (to allow the chlorine to evaporate) for the first two weeks or so.

3. Should I invest in anything whenever transporting the plants to the 5 gal buckets occur? Such as nutes or anything of the sort.

4. I plan to do an outdoor grow. When should I begin doing so? I have a nice spot picked out, but I'm not sure when the plants will be developed enough to put out there.

5. What should I be expecting from the plants? A big concern of mine is will I be able to tell that the plants are developing normally and such. I've got a small trial run going, and there are about ten plants that have been sprouting for about a week now, maybe a tad longer. They still have the original two leaves and have grown a lot taller. They're maybe two or three inches now. I'm worried that they're growing too tall too quickly and not using that energy to develop more leaves or something...

6. Should I wait until the plant has developed two or three different sets of leaves to put it into it's permanent place?

Sorry about the bombardment of questions, haha. Just trying to get a few things cleared up.
Thanks.

1-soil anything nice ,loose airated, good draining soil. if you can check a ph of about 6.0 is good for outdoors.

2-nutrients-go check out your local hydro store there is alot of differant ferts to use and a very broad price range. to keep it simple you could just use a water soluble veg-high N and bloom high-P formulas. yea your correct on the water . streams and creeks work fine for me so does my pond.

3- when transplanting just be real carefull with the root ball, keep moist and dont let it dry out for a week or so. you could invest in things such as superthrive for your roots but its expensive and not nessesary if your carefull.

4-you should have them started now if you dont start today. plant outdoors when the last chance of frost is over. its nice if you can get them a foot tall or so. this will give them a better chance at surviving. watch out for slugs when young. deer, rabbits, ect.

5- what sort of lighting are you using? make sure the plants are as close as possible without burning them.

6-yea for sure you should have 3-4 sets of leaves in ten days or so 12 at most or you probly need stronger lights.
