Tonight will be fun for some people, forgettable for most, and more importantly there will always be the solid contingent of folks who in one way or another, find themselves in situations they never planned on happening, ever. Here in LA if you dont want to go spend ridiculous amounts of money for damn-near everything involved with your existence, then face gouging valet parking lots and quite literally MILLIONS of tourists that are acting like 19 year olds on spring break discovering meth for the first time. The level of exhibitionism and douchebaggery will be of immense proportions inevitably ending in arrests, fights, rapes, vandalism, and scars of similiar ilk. Like this town needs an excuse for people to dress up like clowns and sport realistic props of weapons and vile excetera.
In my three years of living where I am, I have had ONE trick-or-treater. We did have candy. Of course. This is the first year that I haven't bought any. I realized something, this holiday is ruined for kids here. Parents have to literally shuttle groups of kids to better neighborhoods. This can take HOURS. Between traffic, parking and proximity to the best option for trick-or-treating, you can count on having anywhere from 4-6 hours of your night spent in a vehicle. Having never lived in a big city before LA it took me a while to realize this. I feel really bad for the kids and the parents that I know live around here, and other, FAR WORSE locals then mine. And a tip of the hat to those parents making this night happen for their kids. It's not like I grew up in rich neighborhoods, do they take govt assistance? (Now they do, IRONY!). But at least the neighborhood could take a truce for the occasion, and pass out candy.
