I see a lot of bulb manufacturers out there for halide and sodium and other bulbs, all with slightly different properties. Any favorites? Eye Hortilux, Philips, Osram, Sylvania, Lumenarc, Sunmaster... all claim to be the best!

I use an argomax, I like it for a few reasons, 1st in a 400 watt system this bulb makes it a 430 watt, 2nd the bulb is enhanced meaning you can grow thru vegging and right into flowering with this bulb

SunMaster are probably the best - look at their website, all the information about their bulbs is there including spectrographs showing you exactly how much light they output is useable by the plants. The Sylvania Grolux is quite popular as it has enhanced blue spectrum output for a HPS bulb. Philips and Osram are quite similar, the Philips 430w Son Agro is like the Grolux bulb, enhanced blue output. Eye and Lumenarc I don't know much about.

The 430 watt Son Argo is specifically to augment natural sunlight. The bulb produces a little more blue in the light spectrum. This helps most plants from becoming leggy.

Rubbish.

The Philips 430w Son Agro is a stand alone HPS bulb with enhanced blue spectrum output that will work equally well in indoor situations as it will in supplementing natural sunlight. It's not 'specifically to augment natural sunglight' at all. That's confusing and simply wrong.

And I'll say it again - your plants are stretched due to the HPS bulbs you're using for vegging. That picture is supposed to be of an Indica dominant plant? You clearly have no idea whatsoever what a pure Indica or Indica dominant plant is supposed to look like in vegetative growth - and it doesn't look like yours! Indica dominant plants are short squat and bushy, not tall thin and leggy!

And have you ever used a Sunmaster bulb?

Babygro thinks that is rubbish then he should tell that to Jorge Cervantes who wrote Marijuana Horticulture the Indoor/Ourdoor Medical Grower's Bible. This bulb is a favorite with European growers. Jorge gives credit to over 100 differenet people who helped with fact finding. I think I can rely on his word.

Lets get clear here what's being said. I'm objecting to your insinuation that the Philips Son Agro 430w bulb was designed specifically 'to augment natural sunlight'. ie That bulb is designed for use in a greenhouse. I made it crystal clear in what I said that the 430w Son Agro is a stand alone bulb that can be used on it's own for growing indoors without any sunlight. That's what I'm calling rubbish, because you don't have the capacity to read what he wrote and understand it.

Here's what Jose Cervantes says about the Philips 430w Son Agro -

"Philips designed and manufactures the 430 watt Son Agro specifically to augment natural sunlight AND GROW PLANTS. The bulb produces a little more blue light in the spectrum."

Later on he says "The Son Agro bulbs are the choice of European growers."

Considering his book is called "Indoor Marijuana Horticulture" I think it's safe to assume he's referring to european growers using the Son Agro for indoor lighting and NOT in a greenhouse!

My point was and remains so, the 430w Son Agro is a good bulb for indoor use and isn't just for use in a greenhouse, as you insinuated.

That's your problem Mogie, you just copy and paste stuff but don't understand what half of it actually means.

And yes, I have his book as well.

Too many arguements over whos right over things that are petty lets all get stoned and make up yeah
It's not a question of 'who's right'. It's a question of a great many people contributing facts and information they've simply got out of a book and don't actually understand what they mean themselves. I know they're only trying to be helpful, but by slavishly copying others without actually understanding whats being said can be more confusing and obfuscating than not saying anything at all.

Everyone wants to be helpful, which is commendable, but if you don't know what you're talking about you can do more harm than good - and I see a lot of it here, which is why there's a lot of confused people asking a lot of questions to which they don't always get the right answers.

Thats where the problems come in when people rely on opinions. Books are not all simply other peoples opinions. Most are a collection of facts put together to help others that don't yet have those facts. Let no one person here be so self rightious that they think they have all the answers. We are all learning together. Some have more info in certain areas then others. And vice versa.

I bet this conversation has been really helpful. Sorry i recommended doing research. Of course all the manufactures are going to tell you thiers is the best.
And even Jorge has changed some things. He used to recommend five gallon pots but now recommends 3 gallon. Don't get your panties in a wad trying to prove anything please. I must say you handled that much better than I would have Mogie. I probably would have just told him to eat shit and die. Even if his point was correct, and I'm still confused about what that was, it wouldn't matter for this conversation.
