I live on my grandfathers old property ... I just remembered he had a bomb shelter built in my back yard. I gotta check it out soon!

Awhile back, a forum denizen (not RUI) documented his project...burying a 20' steel shipping container in his back yard. Built a little storage shed to hide the entrance. Spent even less then 16k.

I always wanted to bury a shipping container.
Shipping containers are built to have a load on their frames, they were never built to have a load on the side or roof panels. If you bury one it might work for a while, but the pressure of the dirt on the sides and top will crush the container. It might take a few minutes to a few years, but I wouldn't risk it.

I watched a show not too long ago where a guy buried 4-5 shipping containers on his property and used it as a grow house. I'm not sure how they found it but he got busted somehow.

I dont think you would have to worry about the sides buckling. And the roof a few inches on top for grass to grow would be good l. I would rhino linebor raptor line the whole outside so its sealed and no water or moist soil would cause rust. The put A small shed on top edge with a latter and bam there ya go

I think it's a great idea. I always wanted an underground "secret fortress" when I was a kid!
