So I have gotten two high pressure sodium bulbs, 150 watts, and neither of them will work in any light fixture I put them in.

Why could this be?
Help please.

Whoa okay before you start a fire bra. Did you just buy da bulbs n no ballast n no mogul? You need a ballast reflector n mogul socket dats especially made for a 150 w bulb aka 150w hps ballast.
here a pic of my MH see dat cord dats hooked to a mogul socket bra

You're kidding....right?
OK, I'll assume you're not kidding.
Do you have an HPS ballast?
Doesn't sound like it.
Check some online hydro stores and see what the whole setup looks like.

yeah you need a ballast to make HPS lights work, basically a ballast is a big transformer that converts the household current into a higher voltage that the lamp needs to power up. HPS lights will not work at all without a ballast.

bro.. return those bulbs to wherever you bought them.. goto htgsupply's store on ebay and buy a 400w hps/mh kit.. comes w/ ballast, reflector, mh and hps bulb, u can pick a kit up for like $100+ shipping. blaze on.

Sometimes you need to hit the bulbs with a hammer real hard to get them to work. If that doesn't work then get a bigger hammer.

(sorry man!)
