highgrade mixed + 78w of cfl

i've had some mixed highgrade-seeds(smaller breeder) for a while
the breeder calls these 'super strains', i'm not expecting super, but i did have good luck with his nl#5
i bought 13 seeds, and 10 went into cold storage, left the other 3 out for about 1 1/2 years
the 1st 2 seeds sprouted but would go no further, age may have been an issue

the grow setup is micro, 78w of cfl's in a 'tube' setup, about 15 inches in diameter
it has worked well in other grows, so i keep going with what works
the 3rd seed did give me a seedling, it was a slow starter, but it's up and growing
about 9 days in, i will play guess the strain with myself(or anyone else interested) during the grow

I was just thinking about some kind of 'tube' growbox myself the last couple of days, could you show some pics of the tube ? Did you get fans in there ?

What I was thinking is that if you've got a bulb on top, won't the bottom of the plant be without light ?

1st run didn't end well, MG Moisture Control soil did not work out for me

bu i picked myself up, and have about 4-5 good grows in this setup
there are limits with the height, like you say the light does have limits
the top is a steel pizza dish, with mounted light sockets
this may be a lst, i've done a few of those, guess i'll decide based on how the plant looks in the next few weeks

The tube is looking good, and I was thinking about one bulb hanging from the top but obviously the tube is big so you have space to put several lights on top. What about the airflow ? do you have any fans installed ?

It'll definitely be an interesting journal to follow :)

i have a single 120mm pc case fan, mounted at the top and exhausts hot air out
works just about right, bought a bunch of fans cheap for about $2 a fan

thanks for the look, it does work pretty good, great for those of us that like small, low power grows
it really is a variation of the trash can grow setup, they've been around for a while, i just could never find a trash can that was the size i wanted

much better, seedling is recovering from the rough start
looking pretty indica dominant, but another week should give a clearer picture
there are 2 highly indica dominant highgrade-seeds super strains, clusterbomb and brainwreck
but way too early to make an educated guess

glad you found the place newbgrower, great to have another hgs grower watching
so i gave the young one a good looking over, i see branches beginning to pop out after only 3 nodes, that was quick
this plant actually looks like the spitting image of a nirvana PPP that i grew a little while ago
so i suspect white widow genetics here, which is part of the PPP lineage
which gives me some suspicion i do have a brain wreck in progress here
that's the only hgs super strain that has white widow(that i know of)

feeling good, catching right up on the slow start
so i have a rather indica looking plant with 3 nodes
i've been scoping down the pics of all the super strain grows that HGS has
and brainwreck looks to be the likely suspect, at least by the HGS pics
but more traits will emerge, flower time should clarify this
a few details on brainwreck, it's a trainwreck/white widow cross
it's good in that it seems to have quite a rep for a balanced powerful head/body mix
the less good is that i will probably have to deal with some hermie balls
seems trainwreck is famous for this, must be good if this trait is tolerated

things have caught up big time, plant really filled out in the last 3 days
if it is brainwreck, then flowering at 5 inches should end up with about a 20 incher
so i'm thinking flower in 2-3 days, my usual goal is about an oz
i sleep much better with this size, but maybe NY will go MMJ this year
of course, it could be male, in which case i don't care how tall it gets

I new there had to be a good reason for that, but would have never thought of that one. I should also use something for the surface of my pots, will have to add it to my TODO list :)

got a few kind growers that had grown brainwreck to take a look at the pics
brainwreck is the consensus, so i'll hang with that for a bit
provided it's bud and not balls, but i'm kind of optimistic on that too, looks kind of femme
tossed the flower switch 2 days ago, time will tell

not quite a week of flower, but i think i see the 1st bumps of pistils
few more days and it will be clear
branching like crazy, height is just 8 inches
i don't belive height will be a problem, PPP(also WW parentage) had a similar look
and absolutely no odor, not a bit
