About to buy a proper light for my 2x2. I intend to upgrade to a 4x4 and eventually 4x8. I already have a veg light which I intend to have a mother in the 2x2 to use clones for the other tents but I want to do a few grows before expanding. I'm debating between the HLG300 or chilLED 300w or anyone have any other opinions? I like the UV addition with the chilLED after reading a post a while ago about how uv is beneficial but I'm just a rookie what do I know.

Either one produces way more light than you need in a 2x2, but you can dim them, and if you ever up-size your space, you'll have a head-start.

Personally, if it's between just those two options, I can't say which is "better", so go with whatever fits your pocketbook, or whatever tickles your fancy. The added spectrum on the ChilLED light may or may not make any noticable difference - haven't seen enough grows under them to draw a conclusion. On paper it sounds nice, but in a real world garden? I'm not convinced your average grower would see any significant improvement from the monos they add to their white chips. But if you go ChilLED, please let us know how it works for you!

buy a cheap veg setup like a T5, CMH or MH for vegging, not worth putting out all that loot for veg.

@Yodaweed when I first bought my 2x2 setup I purchased the light without research and went on what their website said. So I'm going to use it as a veg light. Live and learn.

@Humple I just sold my motorcycle for 15k so my pockets are a bit swollen. Looking to relieve some of that pressure and invest in a proper setup.

The idea is to have a light that will destroy my 2x2 and when I upgrade I can move it to the 4x4 and add more to get 1000w for the 4x4.

I’m going to say HLG , I use them & my harvest was phenomenal.

Chilled no doubt there is a real expertise, for me it's two different worlds: a product 100% assembled in america from the beginning vs a product started in China (alibaba) and adapted to commercial sector with a production in China by Samsung after Samsung realised that HLG have success with (noob) growers.
It's seems that HLG products are not cETL/CE certified, is it the case of Chilled products, I don't know, for sure HLG products can't be used in professionnal greenhouses because insurances: no IP, no electrical certification, no UL1598 Damp Location, etc etc.
I don't know but may be the case of Chilled too, for me better spectrum and informations with Chilled.

Go chilled if your budget allows. the average grower might not see much of a difference but the added spectrum will help or do nothing. At the end of the day you won't have light envy if you go chilled. I run hlg I love them but I still wish I had some chilled lights I'm very curious about the enhanced spectrum one of these days I'll replace some of my hlg with chilled out of curiosity.

It's what I was really leaning towards anyways just needed those extra opinions to solidify my judgement. I'm torn between going 300w with controller or like Ralph 2x200 w. Either way I'm going to have to dim them like crazy.

Haha I like it. I went with chilLED. Lights are awesome, bought some rapidLED substrates too.

The problem is that Canada is going legal and if you're renting a condo or apartment they'll send notices saying if you're caught growing they will evict you (due to mould and blahblahblah). My townhouse I rent is owned by a neighbouring condo/appartment and I've been renting for so long that to find another for the price I pay is impossible, so I have to shut her down before I even get to test my lights. :'(

That sux real bad. In NZ we might have legal medicinal in 3 years maybe. Personal use might take a another decade. Lawmakers are shit scared of change down under, but we build fast yachts. I own my shack so no renting hassles.

They both seem like good lights. Is there any objective evidence to suggest one is better? What are suggested nominal currents and what electrical efficiency do they produce?
