I am switching over to a vertical setup and am wondering how many CFMs my fan will need to cool one 600w cool tube. What is the bare minimum and what is recommended?

Thanks.

I use a 190: filter->cool tube->fan->out. Works pretty well. No problem if the outside ambient temp stays in the middle 60s.

Since I am not running a filter should I just go fan>cool tube. I'm having the duct run from the cool tube to a 6" sewage pipe. Is it necessary to buy a nice, expensive fan for this or will a cheap one do fine?

You'll want something as a filter, or you'll be sucking/blowing dust and dirt right over your bulb and glass, which will make things really dirty quickly.

I personally would go with a decent 440cfm 6" inline on a dimmer.

Oh, I see. I haven't ran a filter before using hoods and everything has been fine.

Smell is not a problem where I live, so do I need to buy an expensive carbon filter or is there a less expensive option?

6 inch carbon filter is 60 bucks for a cheap one...

Cool, thanks for the replies.

Just to make sure I've got it right, I will have the carbon filter inside the grow room and I should go carbon filter -> fan -> cool tube -> outside?

Pull the air across the light. If you blow air into it to much turbulence it created and makes your fan work harder and less effective.

I figured there were two benefits by doing it the opposite. By putting fan after filter but before light you are "blowing" air over light which cools better and you are "not" pulling heat through fan which will shorten fan life. That is what I do and everything works fine.
