How close can t5s be

I was wondering about my t5 and how close it can be to the plant. I don't want to trim anything because I am seeing if lolipopping is worth it or not so this is my first grow where I am using side lighting and not trimming anything. Will the plant catch fire if its to close to the t5?

Depends on how many bulbs and arrangement.

I have a 4ft 8 bulb. The bulbs are double stacked so its the same width as most 4 bulb units. I can't get it closer than 8 inches before I get problems.

I can let the plants nearly touch on my t5(sometimes they touch and get burned), I have a 2 foot 6 bulb I use it for veg mostly, works great.

I run 4ft T5HOs and can place the lights 2 inches from the plant without burning my plants. however if I place them closer than 6 inches growth of the top bud slows down.you plants are not likely to catch fire if they touch the bulb but the part that touches the bulb will dry out and die
