How do my ladies look?

First timer here. These little ladies seem to be coming along nicely, 2 different strains, power kush and orange julius. Just put them in the smart pots on Sunday and watered them once. Still getting to know them, but we've got a PH meter now and everything seems to be right on track and there's a good amount of new growth. They're in coco coire and perlite, in smart pots. Let me know what you think!

That coco is dryer than Death Valley holly smokes !

They look hungry. You want to keep coco moist all the time.

Give her a full feed and feel the weight of the saturated smart pot. Pick her her next day and determine by how light the pot feels if she needs more water.

It's hard to over water coco, aim for 5-10% run off and you won't have a ph problem as long as what's going in the coco is at the right PH.

Thank you! We're full blown fucking noobs to growing so I really appreciate the help!!

We just transplanted them on Sunday, after everyone told me they were overwatered in the solo cups so we've definitely been keeping it dryer. I seem to see a lot about newbies overwatering so we may be over correcting.

A buddy who's been helping us told us to water until some runs off the bottom (is that what you mean by 5-10% run off?). We did that in the solo cups and general consensus was that we overwatered. We transplanted Sunday and we perimeter watered 2 nights ago and the soil halfway out from the plant is moist when you get down an inch or so. The top is definitely bone dry. I have a humidity meter that'll stay in the soil coming tomorrow so I can see where I'm at.

It definitely doesn't feel dry underneath. We're also running veg lights 24/7 based on the advice of the same buddy. Any thoughts on that?

I'll pass some knowledge of what I've learned from my experience with coco. Beware though don't always believe everything you hear.

You want coco moist, top layer should never go dry. Just go be how full the pot is when full.
Once plants in coco have an established root system you can water them as much as you want. usually aim for a little run off and you'll be fine.

In veg It's good to have a little rest period. Try 20/4 and see.

Coco has the best results when watered frequently. Not a lot at once though , you must find a middle ground. Coco thrives in drip systems because the coco is always saturated but not over watered.

But every grower is different, get good at reading your plants. You're doing a good job of under cutting your plant instead of over doing it.

Thank you!!! These are 7 gallon smart pots. We just watered this morning and gave each a half gallon with nutes. How much would you typically do at a time in a 7 gallon pot?

Enough to have runoff is all we can tell you. 7 gallons for those plants is alot of coco! I have 4 foot plants in barley 2 gallons pots, but they are watered 3 time a day because they are so big. Looking good though, keep it up!
 
Thank you!! I gotta get to know my ladies a little better. I like to try to be quantative so I can keep it consistent. Any idea what a good humidity level the soil should be at? Lol
 
You just don't want it to dry out. You can feel the difference in weight between a plant that was just watered and one where the coco is still wet looking but needs water.

Google h3ad goes coco and read that very informative thread, or coco trees and see the full potential of coco lol. Oh and I would recommend a ppm meter of some sort so you can test the runoff. It has helped me a few time this grow when my runoff ppm gets to high. I use the blue lab truncheon, but their are many good ones out there.
 
I have a PPM meter, what should I be looking for in the runoff? I'll definitely check those out, but basically the coco should be moist ALL the time and never be dry, even on top.
 
You don't want the runoff ppm to be alot higher than the feed ppm basically. But you need to learn to read the plants. If runoff ppm is higher and they look good i wouldn't worry. I back down a little on the feed ppm( same ratio of nutes just watered down) for a few waterings and check it again. Basically you want them to be eating what you give them. So if runoff is high they aren't eating enough of the nutes, runoff is low they need a little more. Dont let the coco dry out or nutrients crystalize and affect pH. Nutrient water pH should be 5.5 to 6.2 ( keep mine at 5.8). Good luck! And read read read lol.
