How long to let clones grow before ......

A friend gave me some non feminized seeds. The seeds have been germinated and 2 cuttings have been taken from each. My question is, how long after the clones are rooted do I need to wait before flipping the lights so I can tell which ones are females?

It depends on your setup. If you have plenty of room, wait at least a month before flipping. You want a decent sized plant if you want a decent sized yield.

Are you flipping only the cuttings to determine sex of the parents, while leaving the parents in veg? If so, then as soon as rooted is fine, if you don't care about the cuttings themselves.

Yeah, you got it. The cuttings are only to determine sex so I know which of the parents to keep. Everything is marked so I can keep it straight. I was told pretty much the same thing by someone else and was looking for confirmation. I was thinking they would need at least a week in veg, but ok. They have been in the rooting cubes for about a week now and look good so soon.

Been trying to get my brother to understand this. Why grow a dozen plants under a light when you can get one to fill that whole space with just a little more time in veg.
If you grow a lot of plants it does significantly cut down on the veg time. I've found that 6 plants per 4x4 is a nice balance, but I've been considering going down to 4 plants. Right now I have two plants filling a 4x4 scrog net, but they vegged for about 4 months and I had to pull 3 males.

Also, and probably very obvious, but growing extra plants when popping regular seeds is a wise move.

I've been running 1 plant per 3x3 scrog under 600w hps. It's a 50/50 hybrid though. Averaging around .68gm per watt or about 45gm per sq ft.
