Hello everybody i have a 10 by 10 room with two 1000 hps lights, two sun tube 6 in hoods,6in in line blower(745 cfm), and a 8500 btu ac, my room is holding steady at 86 which i know is too hott. Anybody know how many btu's i need to properly cool my room. Normally during the winter its not an issue (80 degree average) but this summer has been a really hot one the temps in my house are bout 78-82 degrees

3.41 BTU's per WATT! One of my rooms is running 2k watts and I have a 8500 BTU wall mount and I can put the temps in the low 60's without a problem. I have another room with 3k watts that a 5000 btu wall unit can keep in the low 70's because I have like 900 cfms and very short runs of ducting. Might be your portable, negative pressure a/c unit is not cutting it. I've replaced portables for that very reason.

In the second picture, where does that hole on the left go? Is any super warm air coming out of it?

The second hole is the intake for the duct blower and the duct next to it is the vent coming out and into the attic

wat is the difference between my portable and a window mount ac? And will a window ac let the smell out??? The second hole is the blower intake

you should run co2 and 86f will be perfect for you.portables usually give off heat and you have to oversize them so they work ok, with a window unit the heat is outside the room.

An average 1000W light will generate about 4000BTU of heat. In theory, your AC should do the job.
Try replacing that flex duct with hard duct. That flex stuff slows the airflow WAY down. Make sure every joint or crack is thoroughly taped. If you can make an intake hole for each light, instead of the big U turn, then into the fan, it will be more efficient. Insulate the ducting and hoods with that stick on silver sheet from Lowes (pretty cheap).
Do all these things first, then think about a bigger AC unit. I bet you don't need it. Btw, most window units don't exchange air to outside. So no smell escapes. Key word: Most
Hope this helps

I would bet the house from your pics that the runon the exaust on your portable ac is too long. Read the manual and find out the max run for the exaust is. Put it on a table or something or put a fan at the end of that long hose. You can get a 6in or 8in booster fan from the depot and it should do the trick for less than $40
