just wondering how many plant i should have under a 400w hps with a 600 x 600 shade at the moment i have 8 is this to many

umm, only 1 problem with that. a 400watt hps only covers about 6x6 feet. and thats with natural light.. i could maybe see it if you did it in a 2 liter bottle or somthing. but kinda pointless.im watching a guy thats going to try 8 plants per sqft(no typo)... yea, crazy!! talking about SOG. so you could potentially grow 80 plants under that thing!!!!! so between 1-80, take your pick!
i would grow 6 plants without SOG. and 8 or so with, depending on your strain.

hey bro
do the math, 8 plants/ft^2 adds up pretty quick. so say if your space is a 3x3 area.3'x3'=9sqft. your total sqft is 9. 9sqft times 8plants/sqft = 72 plants. so you can see if you added more sqft you could have over 80 plants. a 400W will effectively light a 3x3 area. peace

edit- aslo i dont recommend 8plants per sqft, im just saying that im watching a grow journal with someone who is going to attempt to do this. 1plant per sqft is pretty good for a SOG and not too crowded.

I have a 430 watt HPS in a 2.5' w x 3' d x 7' h closet.
The light's footprint fills the closet completely. I plan on flowering six plants in there, on a constant two plant biweekly rotation. Eight would be possible, but crowded and likely a little less productive. I wouldn't want to deal with more than that; it'd be too hard to work on a bunch of smaller plants in that space, as it's tight enough that you can't really step inside.
With air cooling the hood, everything stays nice and happy at around 82-84 deg F (24 hours on) or 74-76 deg F (12/12.)

i've seen it done before.. just not really with chronic. i know schwag growers who will fit more than 80. have fun checking those bitches for hermies and other shit though.
i take pride in my grow. each plant is grown with care... so your really not like some super genius.. in fact, it should be pretty well known that putting so many dank plants together is just a waste of time..

its not my grow, and i would never pack more than 2 per sqft, it just seems wrong to put anymore... thats just me though
once again, its not my grow - i posted the link of the kids grow a couple posts back.
maybe he is a genius, time will tell. i told him that he might get PM(powdery mildew) from lack of air circulation inbetween his plants, also like you said hermies, and bugs
im sure interested in watching his grow for sure....
