How many plants in 150qt Cooler

I would like to grow 6 plants in a 150qt cooler and am wondering if I will have any root space issue's. That comes out to about 6 gal per plant so I thought it would be equivalent to my original 5gal buckets-but now I am not certain if it is a straight comparison. Any help from more experienced cooler growers would be greatly appreciated.

Read my tutorial.. then wiimb's.. they're both stickied at the top of this section.

I did. Besides a brief mention that you don't believe in growing multiple plants in the same res on page 9 of your thread nothing in either of those threads pertains to my question. I am looking for information regarding the relationship of reservoir capacity at low levels (5 gal) vs high levels (40 gal.) Both of your threads are based on 5 gal bucket grows and don't relate to this question.

It is not helpful to post in a thread telling someone to read your "tutorial" when your "tutorial" doesn't have anything to do with the question you are "answering." Thanks for all the help though!

I would love to here from someone who has actually grown in large reservoir.

Thanks!!

the reason why VO and most everyone in this section of the forums grow 1 plant per rez is because when you have multiple plants to a single rez (doesn't matter if its a 500 gallon cooler) you eventually get root lock (when the roots grow together, and interlock with each other)

when people do grow multiple plants in a single rez they do a short veg..like 4 weeks TOPS! alot of them still run into some kind of issues.

you never mentioned what strains you wer growing..are they all the same? or are you growing different strains? different strains can cause issues..like with your feeding schedule.

1 strain might love it while the others will hate it.

are you growing feminized seeds? or not?..if not you will most likely have atleast 1 male, and by the time you find that male your roots will be so intermingled it will be a bitch trying to remove it with out damaging the female roots.

get where i'm going with all this?

but i digress.

different strokes for different folks.

It's not helpful, but thanks for the help? Okay..

You shouldn't grow multiple plants in a single reservoir.. that's the point. Do some more research if what you read on mine and wiimb's threads didn't.. stick.. I guess.

I'm sick of answering this question over and over again, so basically, read thoroughly and just do a small amount of research on your own.. or go through a few troubled grows. Or wait on someone else to come along and make you think it's okay to do it.

Either way good luck! Next time someone comes in don't tell them they aren't being helpful!

I am growing from clone all taken from the same plant. All will obviously be females and of the same pheno so should react similarly to feeding schedules. What trouble will I have with root lock-besides on the off chance that one of the plants dies during the grow?

I was thanking those people that will eventually help me answer the question I am posing. It wasn't that the info in your "tutorial" didn't stick-there was just zero info regarding the specifics of my question related to water capacity relationships.

You came into a thread where a specific question was asked and rudely assumed that I had done no research before asking it. You then proceeded to tell me to read your thread which contained zero info about the question at hand. Please spend your time somewhere else- I am looking for information about a specific question. You have been here for 6 months and your Stickied thread contains 1 post of information and 12 pages of people telling you how cool you are. You don't even grow with a PPM meter....How are you a mod? Just because I choose to use a new screen name for each grow doesn't mean I haven't been "doing a small amount of research" for long before you joined this board.

I see very little problems growing multiple plants of the same genetics from clone in the same reservoir. Have you ever grown multiple plants from clone of the same genetics in one reservoir?

I would love to hear from someone with experience in growing in larger multi-site reservoirs. I am wondering if the relationship between water capacity changes based on the size of the reservoir/# of plants. For instance is having 1 plant in a 5 gal bucket the same growing capacity as growing 2 plants in a ten gal container.

Thanks in advance for those willing to actually help!!

This is a serious problem.. Even though it's doable, you're going to have problems that could be avoided, and honestly it's just not worth the hassle to 12/12 clones like that. I'm done being verbally harassed.. I don't need it. Have fun!

#1800 was as worthless as the first 1799...Please stop posting in a thread where you are not providing anything productive.

OP I've got several coolers varying in size . how many you can do in a 150 qt depends a lot on how big you plan on vegging them. also you'll do much better bending them over certain ways or doing a scrog. What type of top are you using? a lot of people here using coolers as a res/grow chamber fabricate lids from things like foamboard. I've found this a hassle and also a good way to introduce something not inert in your system so I just cut holes in the lids and seal the foam with a sink caulking. I'm thinking I'm gonna use a cooler with a non-insulated lid for my next cloner/early veg coolers. I have been doing some playing around with sprayers or going straight dwc with the cooler, I like sprayers and water pumps. I see much better results and use less nutrients. Right now I've got a 110 qt cooler with 3- 6 in sites that I can only finish two plants out in (see photo) but I like to veg them up big. I've got some other 70 quart or so with 10 sites cut in them. I could use all ten sites but veg time would have to be near to nothing. So the anser to your question just leads to me asking a question, how big do you veg them?
Forgot to add picture....

Hey db-

I am doing a scrog and have a fabricated lid. I have the lid sealed with water barrier pads and covered in foil tape. If you don't mind me asking, besides the real possibility of adding something foreign to your res, what other hassles did you find with the fab lid?

After continuing research I am starting to think 150qt isn't enough to finish 6 plants regardless of it being more than 6 gal per plant. I would be interested to know what the rootball capacity was compared to your 110 qt res. I am also reconsidering my timeline-which if extended would allow me enough time to veg 3 plants for a long enough time to fill my 5x5 screen.

Cheers to CO AM20

and OP, you have the right idea. multiple plants in one cooler is fine if you run similar strains. BUT if you develop a problem with one plant you will more than likely have the same problem with all plants (as long as its root/nutrient related).

forgot to answer, I found when my ass passed out in my grow due to I forgot I had the co2 on and my visit was extended ( I luv that room) that my hand would go right thru foam board! my head made a pretty good hole in the wall too :/
had it been the cooler lid those things are sturdy.

I will for sure post some pictures tomorrow. Currently my grow is in the basement and the res is upstairs spread out. I appreciate the help db. Until tomorrow!

I think you could do 6 if you're screen is pretty big , you can bend them over in the right directions if you have the space /screen.

Yea I'm gonna go on ahead and say it is fine to do it. I've grown everywhere from 2 plants to 8 in a 120qt cooler, and have yet to have a single issue with yield impact or anything. This is what I grew out of something that had 8 plants in it...

Wow. Thank you very much for an informative posting with pictures! If that is the same grow as in your sig it says it was multiple strains? Any burn/def problems if so? Thanks so much

Also you should try not to lump your thread and wiimb's thread together all the time. His is a well thought out, precise and informative place for beginners to start before getting into DWC. It just doesn't address the question I was asking.

This grow has literally been being planned since before VO became a member here. I have had poops that have taken longer to brew than your membership time here. The audacity of you to come into a thread and demand I read your "tutorial" before posting a question that has nothing to do with your thread and when you have no idea who I am or what my experience level is.

You are totally right VO, growing 1 plant in a single 3.5-5 gal res is the absolute top end hydro set up I could ever hope for. I feel so bad for you.
