How to get more vertical growth

I have a Bubbleicious fen, 5 weeks into veg. I fimmed 2 weeks ago and it exploded in growth and got really bushy but not veritcal growth. There are lots of tops in the middle and bottom part of the plant but there are huge fans leaves covering all of it. The stems are so short I can't do much LST wise? Any advice? I was also going to top the main stem in a few days and veg for another week or two, the flip.

That is a major problem. You might want to think about starting over again.
NO, it is nice and green, Top now, give it a week to start getting more bushy. Trim the fan leaves off the main stock, give it another week to recover and keep growing, and then flower. The plant will double to triple in height in the first 2 weeks of flowering so you will get plenty of stretch. What type of light are you using. Tight internoding is what you want (As long as it is not stunted). And if you are new to this with limited seeds, it is worth it to grow it out and learn.

Thanks, this is my 4th grow, but first time fimming. Had good success toppig but wanted to give it a try. I think I fimmed a week early and should have wait til it was a little taller. So the fan leaves are big. I am thinking of cutting some off in the middle which are covering tops. Is that going to stunt it badly? He plant is very healthy though. This is a pc grow with 45w LEDs. I've had a few grows on this already.

topping and fim'ing are pretty much used to bush out a plant. try not doing that, and raising your light.
My lights can't get much further away, maybe an extra foot but that's it. I just need the stems to get longer so I can lst and train them to grow the way I need for my box.

So do you guys think that topping and trimming some fan leaves off in the middle will stress her too much?

I wouldn't trim off anything, especially fan leaves. Just leave it in veg longer. The plant will stretch 2-3 times it's height in the first ~21 days of flower anyhow.

Thanks, spek. I don't think I am going to. I just did some more LST work on the fan leaves and got a little more light down in there. It's difficult cause the stems are so short. I guess this bubbleicious is a much slower strain. I've done ak48 on my last two and I suppose I'm a little spoiled at its growth speed.

let it grow
Yea, I will thank you. The only other concern for me I think is letting it veg for too long. This is my smaller pc grow box so it's only about 1.5-2 gallon container. Not sure if I can veg much longer than 6 weeks. What do you think?

as long as you don't trim too many leaves, in any one session, you'll be fine. i trim through the first couple weeks of flower, no probs. trimming is one of those very touchy subjects. (i also use the adage, "if you can't tuck it, pluck it." in my trimming.) if you have a few plants, experiment on one, and see how it does compared to the others. you really can't/shouldn't, blindly take advice on a subject that is so controversial. try it for yourself, and then you'll know! hell, i even cut whole branches off sometimes.

all depends on the strain. A indica will stretch less then sativa. I am still on the topping side to get some side growth going... You have height restraints because of the pc case so you might not be able to do as much lsting as you want until you start to flower, then you will be doing a lot of lsting for the first couple weeks. Thought about trying to scrog in the pc? I like the pot you picked. Looks like a good amount of soil for a pc case. Aways thought that was one of the biggest challenges was getting a healthy root system

Thanks. Yea it fits the box perfect. The stems are still flexible so I was able to stake them down pretty well. I'm hoping that enough light gets down there where I can work with the tops. I have another larger cab that i built which can hold a bigger plant. I am thinking of making another cab and ditching the pc box, but we'll see.

The Pc case is fun and will really hone skills (Probably the hardest environment to control everything), but honestly for the effort, I don't think they are worth it. I did one as an experiment a few years back and got about a half ounce on what I thought was a farely maxed out grow...And I smoked it in a week :), maybe 2. It was not the biggest pc case but again, a ton of work for a relatively little weed. Here is a link to it if you want to look at it. I did do a scrog. http://rollitup.org/t/pc-scrog-6-week-flower-i-call-it-blackberry.164898/

Not a good idea in a PC case, but know that if you remove the fan directly under a branch, the branch will grow up to replace it. Doing so can add 2 to 4 more weeks to veg though

Yea, it was my first thing I've bought, slowly upgrading. There have been people get 2.5 ounces out of this box though.
