Hps/12 12 lighting question

I have a 400W dual hps mh digital ballast running through a digital 24 hour timer. But when the hps bulb is off (through the timer) the gas is still emitting a small amout of light as its not fully off. will this effect the 12 12 ?
Was thinking the bulb is staying slightly on so it can light up to full brightness faster. am i wrong?

I think the light should be completely off...I have a magnetic ballast and the light stays on for a little bit after the timer goes off but the light, I think, should turn completely off after a bit.

My light goes all the way out. You dont want any light during the dark time!
