temp and humidity fluctuations

will big temp and humidity swings affect terpenes
Best answer I can give is "it might". Right now I'm growing at 4500 feet elevation, the temps go from low 40's at night, to mid 90's in the daytime. The humiditiy runs from 20% in the daytime to around 50% at night. The other day we had some T-storms roll through, and the humidity went from 25% to 90% in an hour! The autos flowers seem to be doing just fine and have a good smell, the photosalso seem to be doing just fine, but aren't in flower yet.

I dunno about terpenes, I think the bigger concern would be mold or mildew. For example, when temps drop and humidity goes up suddenly (like when the lights turn off), condensation can form inside the buds, which can create the ideal environment for mold to grow.

Are you sure thats not gutation? I had that once and suspect thats how it molded. Idk if we are speaking in indoors or outdoors where you have control or not.

I'm assuming OP is referring to indoors. I'm talking about when the air inside the buds hits the "dew point" based on the temp and RH, and water vapor in the air condenses into a liquid on the surface of the plant.

The main way to prevent this is improving airflow, both exhaust/ventilation, which helps stabilize the overall temp and RH, and airflow around the buds, to remove the moisture that the plant is transpiring.

My point is, if you're having big swings in temps and humidity, a reduction in terpenes is the least of your concerns...

I agree with that I just havent heard of the other part. Maybe outside though. Unless temps dropping below whats appropriate like if its a basement hitting 60F or lower. I had droplets all through the buds from high rh and no circulation. I still get some gutation on leafs early flower.

Was told thats high rh and overwatering. Im in dtw coco. I dryback more now and helped but still saw some. Rh was 60-75 with no gutation but later 2 wks in at 45-50rh was gutating same water frequency. I do have much lighter leafs vs overfed looking. Anyway..

Yeah guttation could also cause it. Main thing is you don't want liquid water sitting on the leaves or especially inside the buds for very long. Botrytis spores need liquid water to germinate so if you can prevent that, you're taking a big step towards preventing bud rot...
