Hurricane badge

I think that tv news people must have a merit badge system, where they have to have certain shots in their resume if they're going to get anyplace. One of these is a shot of them battling wind and rain in the middle of a hurricane. I really don't get why they put these people out there every time in areas where mandatory evacuations are ordered. It's dangerous, it is contrary to the message of "get the hell out" that authorities are trying to send, and it just makes them look stupid.

There are alot of stupid people out on the streets, we just need a stupid person badge.

Agreed. The main person that comes to mind is Anderson Cooper. That douche always seems to think that he is going to look like more of a hardcore/dedicated reporter by putting himself in these dumb situations. "Ooooooohhhhhhh I might get me some kind of fancy award for being this stupid, YIPPEE!"

I saw a video of a lady reporting on a storm in Asia. She had a rope tied around her waist to keep her from flying off.

There is no media in any mandatory evacuation area for this storm or any other. They go to the suggested ones not the mandatory as if they are out in the open they are told to leave and or arrested. People that stay behind in mandatory areas hide in their homes and lose their lives or get rescued and then cited for the infractions.

I agree it is dumb for anyone to be even close to any of these places but it is no dif than storm chashers, a dif breed for sure. With that said I stayed in Galveston for three tropical storms when I had a home there and it is a fucking rush that is off the hook

So I guess they're lying when they say, "this area where I'm standing now is under a mandatory evacuation order.."
Sure looks deserted, except for the stupid reporters.

Have you seen what they've done down there since Katrina? Over 14B spent so far. They built huge gated walls of steel and concrete around NO proper. Some of the outlying areas still have old levees, but those will be relaced too.

I agree that it seems stupid to go back to these areas. But really what is the alternative? Abandon NOLA? That just isn't possible. It would make no sense to find such an area and say, "let's build a city here!", but NOLA came to be over many decades, before much was known about hurricanes and geology. Just the way it is. They have to protect it if it is possible to do so, and by the looks of the new structures it is. They have one pumping station that can pump out over 150,000 gallons per second.

i love how you think i still live with my parents like you do. been out for years. no one diserves to be pitied for living in any area where your house is going to be destroyed possibly every season. they hate it, pack the fuck up and leave. i met a dude who by the grace of god went where ever and walked or ran to get where he needed. just a back pack full of cloths and some food. that MAN when i see him again will get more from me than any person who just happens to live in a disaster prone area. if you dont get it then you really missed the point.

I get it.

What you don't get is that natural disasters happen everywhere. Whether it's a hurricane flooding your streets, or a fire that burns down your home and everything that surrounds you. You think that when someone is stranded on top of their roof they are asking for pitty? Or when someone who did evacuate has their business flooded and nothing left to earn money from, that's asking for pitty as well? Pull your head out of your ass and stop acting as if people are lesser because of where they choose to live. La. is not where I call home nor is it a place I prefer to be, but it is rich in cultural heritage and it would be a shame if people didn't live there because it is different from much of the country.

Now go ask your mom to heat you up a hot pocket and fan your ass out over a game of cod, child.

Shove your religious diatribe into a sinful area and come back when you're ready to have a logical discussion.
