Hydroponic wick system help

Has anyone had experience with this an had a good crop

Hi, I'm thinking of switching to hydro style growing and I think a wick system would be preferable for me.

I'm looking for information right now, Would you be able to answer a couple of questions? and/or a point in the right direction?

are the roots in a wick system allowed to work their way into the reservoir?

is the result of not using nutrients or airstones always a failure (no yeild at all, dead crops)?

I'm growing with the wick system, ill send you a link, im going to have mad pictures tonight of the plants that are 6 months into bloom and 5 others in veg. Pretty radd.
