Hydroton question.

I have a EBB and Flow System set up and my seeds are germinating right now. I'm going to use rockwool and hydroton for when I'm ready to plant the seeds. I was wondering if I needed to add nutrients to the water for my flow system if I'm going to be using rockwool and hydroton.

Thank you.

I am new to hydro myself, but I would say just use plain water to start. After a few weeks or so start with a very light nutrient solution (under 200 ppm).

You don't need to use anything during the first few weeks. Don't feed them anything but pH balanced water until your seeds develop 3-4 sets of true leaves. Not the round leaved that come out of the shell and break the soil. 3-4 sets of the marijuana looking leaves. 200ppm sounds good.

I use exactly that system, and it works great. One thing: Be sure to wash your Hydroton thoroughly in a sieve before putting it in your tray, and then run your ebb/flow cycle several times and rinse the reservoir out completely. Hydroton is great stuff, but it does require that initial cleaning, or the clay powder will gunk up your pump and plumbing. Good luck!

Great advice

No nutes for the first couple of weeks, and then after that be way cool on it. It's real easy to overdo it with the nutes in the beginning and that will stymie growth, which will cost you an extra week or two to get things back on track.
