Its my first time that im groing. I am using an NFT system. I bought some easyrider (AK47 * Lowrider 2) which I put in jiffy pallets. I kept them in a bowl with a plastic dome on it. After 5 days, the seeds still didnt germinate. I used the home water which has a ph of 7.2. I sometimes put the bowl on top of the home heater coz I heard that seeds like heat when germinating. The funny thing is after 5 days, I put the bowl on the heater, then I had to leave home, I was so stoned I forgot it on the heater. When I came back, the pallets where a bit dry so I put some water in it. Since this is my first time growing, I really need ur help for the new seeds Im gona buy. Cheers :peace:

Why don't you try the paper towel method or putting it in liquid till it sinks also try some bag seeds if u dont have much experience Germinating to avoid wasting money on expensive seeds and remeber u need heat all through the process not just now and then so remember heat and moisure

I use coco for all my germinating needs. It works 100% of the time, usually takes 4 days before I see my plant above ground.

Jiffy was the wrong choice for NFT. I'm surprised you're choosing the most delicate method despite the lack of experience and knowledge. Your plants should be started in something more like a rockwool cube, and then transfered to a net pot with hydroton.

I've used Jiffy a long time ago, but it would seem recently EVERYONE is having problems getting seeds to start in those things.

do u think its a good idea to put the bowl with the jeffy pallets on a heater? coz maybe that's what's killed it? i kept it for a long time on the heater...

lets say I use the towel method, what should I do when they germinated, should I put it in a jiffy pallet or directly in the rockwool? coz the rockwool's hole is big. Can I use the 250 watt light to germinate, coz the light creates heat...
Anyway I just ordered some new seeds, the Barney's LSD. I cant waste any more money, this is my last attempt, I wish Im successfull. If anyone has a tip plzz help

I once had a seed germ after 26 days. It was in soil, which is fine and the most natural I guess. But after all that it was a damned MALE.

Seeds just need moisture and warmth (25 to 30C) to germinate. Paper towels are not necessary.

Temps from 75-80, put soil in a party cup, poke 4 holes in the bottom and water till it dribbles out. Let sit for a few minutes and plant seed 1/4" - 1/2" down and cover up with loose dirt and lay a piece of paper towel over it. Get a spray bottle and spray the top a couple times a day after the first day to keep moist. Dont dump water on it.

I just germinated 3 Nirvana Ice seeds like that this week. Planted Monday evening and friday morn I had 3 sprouts. I have had 100% success. Oh and try not to touch the seeds.

I have excellent results with paper towel method. i wet a paper towel with warm water, fold a few times place seeds in side, spread apart some. place towel in zip lock bag.. Then i put the bag in a light tight box (fake hallowed out book) and place it on my cable box to keep it warm. Almost positive i read the cable box thing elsewhere on RIU

They have Miracle grow seed starter mix at walmart or Home depot for like 3 bucks and will last you for alot of sprouts. After it sprouts give it about 3-5 days of growth and transplant to a 6 or 10" pot. Easy as pie.

I managed to germinate my first seeds in 18 hours a couple days ago.

Folded up a paper towel, wet with warm water, rung it out a lil, placed inside a DVD case and then in the airing cupboard.

There isn't anything special about paper towels that forces seeds to germinate. That is to say that any seed that germinated inside of a paper towel would more than likely also have done so if it was put directly into a soilless mix, rapid rooter, coco pellet, jiffy plug, rockwool slab, etc. Rapid rooters or a soilless mix/coco coir with worm castings in particular I would recommend.

I think the roots will be happier if they can begin to fully take hold of the medium without being burdened by our fingers.

You can drill a hole into plastic 'beer' cups and use them for starting seedlings. Keep them in a mostly enclosed container or under a dome, don't allow them to dry out as if that happens your seeds will probably end up toast. Also don't allow the medium to stay saturated; don't let your containers set in stagnant water as it will increase the odds of dampning off and the seed/seedling will rot. Good drainage is essential which makes coco coir by itself particularly suitable for the purpose, or you can add it to a soilless mix that also contains perlite.
