Hello! i have been experiencing some major problems with my first grow. i am using Sunshine Mix #4. im using 1 gallon containers. the room temp is between 77-81. humidity is between 45-50. sometimes it creeps a little lower, sometimes its creeps a little higher. i have a 12" circular fan osolating at all times. they are in veg at 24 hrs of light per day on 4-bulb 4 foot florescent lights. i have been watering only when the containers are light and have been feeding them: starting the first few feeds with Botanicare's line of Pro Grow for hydro, Liquid Karma and Cal Mag. all at 3.75ml per gal the first 3 feeds then jumped to 5ml per gal the last 2 feeds. i have been on a every other day watering schedule. R/O water all the time. i have been loosing A LOT of leafs. i hear that is normal from some growers, and not normal form others. i have probably lost about 2 full plants worth of leafs. all the leafs on the bottom are the problematic leafs. all growth from the middle up looks really good. they dont have that luscious green almost leathery look (im colorblind, thats the best i can describe healthy looking plants) im getting really nervous that this is a bigger problem than i think it is. growth is still very active. the plants are in there 5th week of life, started from seed. they seem like there growing fine, the growth at the top looks healthy. i am highly confused. i have grown once before in soil back in the mid nineties (god, that ages me...lol) and this is my first hydro grow. i check the ph at the end of every neut mixing and it appears to be at 6.0 (using the color coded drops with PH UP & DOWN). i have lost a shit ton of leafs and im getting majorly concerned. can anyone tell me what im doing wrong? the lights are about a half an inch above the tallest plant which is at 17.5inches. the others are about 12inches. the tallest plants are on the left and right of the light and the shortest plant being in the middle with an arch from left to right. i have developed a small gnat problem but am slowly dealing with that issue as organically as possible. i know the line of nuets im using are organic based. i was referred by everyone (online) to get FOXFARM. didnt find enough positive things to use it, guy at the store knew exactly what i was going for when i told him the style of grow i want to do. and he referred me to BC's line of nuets. i started using all 3 of the BC products i picked up and have not seen any promising results yet!! i have been using them for over a week now, just about 2 weeks. an nothing. very slight tip burn, possible neut burn, but those marks on the leafs where there before i started using the nuets.

please help me!! if you need pics, just ask. i have some from about a week ago. but i can get updated ones asap!!! i need advise asap!! the lights seem to be in the correct position. my waterings are not excessive, anyways i dont think they are. what am i doing wrong?? what am i not doing right? im dying to know!!!!

Your problem is the nats. This just happened to me. Soil grow for me. Bought infested soil from walmart mosquito dunk worked the best. You leaves shrivel up and fall of from lack of nutrients and water. If you have them flying around they are sure to be in your res. Pull one plant out and look at the root ball if there are little worm they are nat larva get on them fast population can explode in a few days.

thank you motoxmom!! maine buds, i have no res, im growing in Sunshine Mix #4..its coco...a soiless medium is what they call it. but its still soil and its still hydro. i hand feed and water my plants. nats cant do any damage to your grow...or so i have been told. and i dont have a infestation. just a handful, and they are slowly going away. i think i was over watering, and it sucked all the nutes out of the soil. so im having cal/mag issues. plus im using the drops to test ph, EVERYONE should be using the most expensive ph reader on the market. the $100 ones and the $30 ones are just as useless as the drops. there all accurate to the .2 +/- and that can cause nute lock out. im slowly learning. i heard a little leaf loss is okay, but its really not. its your plants trying to tell you something. and that explains why my friend used to grow the most amazing looking bud ive ever seen. but then he would flush at harvest like normal and it would turn to hay/grass. looked stringy as all hell and tasted like lawn clippings. little did he know he was flushing he nutrients out the entire grow, he fed them just enough for them to look healthy, but when it came down to it, it was garbage. i will post some pics soon. i have a buddy coming by to adjust everything for me. i have 10 days til flowering and if i cant nip this problem in the bud by then, its going to be a long fall... any more advise is highly appreciated! i am still learning and would love every bit of knowledge anyone can spread my direction! much appreciated!

I feel your pain man, serious. The best I can tell you is get a nutrient test kit, see if anything is out of speck. Inspect the root ball for signs of rot.
It's a pain in the ass to be doing everything you can and not seeing results I know.

A 1 inch layer of play sand on top of your soil will kill the fungas nat larve period ,problem solved. Your sunshine # 4 should be treated same as soil so your ph is way to low! you need 6.5. your plant are experiencing nutient lock out! correct your ph by flushing pots with 6.5 phed water and then feed at 6.5 ph
Your botanicare nute are great its what I use! Pulled 2.47 pounds from last grow with one 1000w hps

wow!!! that page is super informative. i think i figured out the issues im having. by reading that persons thread it has helped me identify more then 1 problem i guess im having. ba hum bug! and everything looks so good from the 3/4 on up. crazy! learning as i grow, er go...lol!

actually my Sunshine Mix #4 should be treated as COCO> hence the hydro in the meaning soil-less medium. i know it sounds weird, but that is the way it is. but i will not argue at all with you, it sounds like your doing a great job. that is exactly what i plan to use, and that is what im hoping to produce. say, what are you growing? how many plants did you pull that off with? im hoping to harvest something (weather it be all that or half that) every 15-30 days. eventually... does not look like it will be this time. im basically looking for mothers. i have heard about the sand method for ridding gnats from the soil. i have to try it out. i heard there is a few other methods that will eradicate the pesky lil pests. im going fo an as organic as possible style of grow. hence the Sunshine Mix. thanks again for the advise, its always appreciated!!!!
