I dont know what I am doing- please help!

So, I absolutely do not know what I am doing. Please look at my pics and tell me what you think. Two plants went in the pots in June and one in July. They live next to the tomato plants. The July plant lives on the deck. I cut up one when it started turning brown. End of day, I just want to help my husband have some medicine so he can sleep at night. I got the soil test kit, and this was what it said, The PH is normal, The nitrogen is High, the Phosphorus is low and so is the Potash. That is based on the color chart. The plants get watered at night I will check the moisture mid day and keep up on that. The crispy critters have bugs in em. I took 3 small caterpillars off the bud this morning. However the mother plant looks happy today. (the one I cut all the brown buds off. ) Now I worry for the other plant that was a few feet away if it got bugs on it too. Sigh, if it was beer I could do this without effin it up.

Definetly some nutrient deficiencies going on. Are you using miracle grow soil? I recommend an inexpensive soil test kit like rapitest n test once every couple weeks or more throughout the grow. That way u always know exactly what she needs!

Looks a little premature to be picking. Best way to know they ripe for the harvest is an inexpensive 60x magnifier. Look at the trichomes. (Little mushroom looking things). When they r milky with 20-50% amber she's ready.

And yes that bud needs alot more trimming before Curing! It's like giving it a haircut so to speak! Lol

so turning brown and crunchy or was it discoloration only?

Oh and the top on the deck one looks great n healthy just make sure she's ready before harvesting.

IMO trim all the leaves off for the most part n then hang dry upside down in a dark cool area until stem snaps when bent. Then it's onto the glass jar curing phase for another week to two weeks on average.

You're an amazing spouse, we all need one like you.

Make sure the pots never completely dry out. I usually stick my finger in about an inch if it doesn't feel moist (not wet) I do a light watering.

I agree with the above statement in regards to your soil. There is a big difference between soil and cheap crap with wood chips in it.

Also another heads up. If you planted in July you are probably pretty close to harvest date. It is very normal for leaves to begin to turn yellow as they finish. This means the plant is using it's reserve nutrients in order to finish her buds. Wouldn't worry to much about the yellow if you are close to harvest.

The brown could be a number of things. My first guess would be lack of water.

When any problem occurs start at the simplest solution first.

I personally give them a "hair cut". Trim all the leaves close to the bud and follow its natural shape.

If I set up in my back yard I would employ one of those metal outbuilding that can be purchased from a lumberyard. The kind that most people set on patio stone and store thier yard eqquipment etc. I would renovate the ground for the plants before i placed the building. I find mj likes soils with good drainage and they like to be watered frequently, providing the soil etc has good drainage. I would remove the roof and replace it with a 3" net and place in a low level watering system so I could just turn the tap. Use clones and plant them in rows like a garden about 6"s apart. Aply the ferts by hand just like a regular garden etc.

Brown and Crunchy that is why I cut it. I think the tomato plant sent over bugs. I saw ladybugs having an orgie about a month ago.

Looking good, but a little nitrogen won't hurt...

i am going to tell u how to get what u want for your hubby all year round (cheapest but effective way)

u need a place in the house do to the winter

u are in a place u are able to do this ................Head to a SeedBank online (personal i use attitude) that is to the auto flowering strains 65 to 75 days u will have meds for hubby the gentics in the plants do the flowering ..........allowing u to only worry about fatting the buds up and keeping her happy untill done

get yourself some 3/5 gallon soil air bags
get yourself the go box from general organic.......the ML pippettes or the 3 ml ones
get yourself a T5 system (i picked this since u can do 2 plants ) here........if u have more money and room they the 4ft system is better

now the soil .............Fox Farm Ocean Forest

just plant the seed in the pot and fallow the directions on the go box set it under those lights ........on a 20 hours on 4 hours off


in 65 days u will need to cut the plant down (this means clipping off all the fan leaves u can ) and hang it in a dry area with no lights and air movement 7 days after that it can be taken down and trimmed (all those leaves that are covering buds up)........put it in the jars and u will have a sleepy hubby

check out CannaButter.................u can do this fresh stuff but better if dried then ground up

Ladybugs are good. If you had plenty of them,,,they should have helped control pest problems. i dont know what other pest besides a caterpillar or worm type fucker sucking your buds dry. I havent experienced dry and crunchy unless i found a fat ass caterpillar somewhere near the damage. Tomatos get blight, but i havent experienced blight on a canna plant? Keep it UP though! It can get quite interesting. Welcome to RIU by the way!

A good potting soil shouldnt be bad at all, i personally dont even fathom spending money on expensive ass bags of soil shit. But to each their own. MG may have its haters also, but i use what i can get, and it still works.

Sometimes though a big mistake i believe many may do,,,,is using topsoil or garden soil in a pot environment. Unless they alter the garden soil to have drainage ie (add..perlite..etc!)
