Ok ive been usinf cfls for my veg stage. i boought a 400 watt hps for my flowering. i just harvested and im about to start my second grow. i want to switch to metal halide for my veg growth. One of my questions is that someone told me you can use a metal halide bulb in my hps setup. numerous people have told me this. Is it true/ can i use a MH bulb in my HPS setup? and i was looking for some MH bulbs. I came across an aquarium buulb that has a color rendition of 20,000 k. i know you want a bluer color for veg growth. would this light be better than a 6500 k mh bulb? Also, what is the best veg growth MH bulb and color? thankl you for your help?:leaf:

well, do you have a ballast and a hood yet? or atleast a socket? if you do, is your ballast switchable or is it just HPS or just MH?

i bought a whole setup. a complete 400 watt hps. ballast and hood. its a hps. itrs doesnt say anything about metal halide. on it or the papers that came with it. its brand new though. im just afraid of puting a 400 watt MH bulb in it and it blowing up wen i plug it in.

What's the make/model of your ballast? Typically if it's switchable it'll be specific to tell you so...so assume it's not....and yes, theoretically you can flower with either mh or hps.....it's all in the cycle of light to which you expose the plant to. But, depending on the stage of growth the plant is in, cannabis usually likes a blue spectrum for vegging (mh) and a red/pink/orange spectrum for flowering (hps)...hence why people seperate their rooms......I would look into lighting spectrums alittle more and how it affects plant growth :)....hope that helps some

if it is not switchable they do have something called a conversion bulb... which would allow you to convert HPS to MH but usually the light isnt a strong as it would be if you were using a MH ballast w a MH bulb. but none the less MH is always better than cfls. i wouldnt use HPS for veg, ive heard it leads to loose/fluffy buds.

im using a 400 watt hps sodium setup that i bought from HTG on ebay( high tech garden supply). i dont believe it said anything about being able to use a MH bulb in the hps socket. but that is what i wanna know. i wanna know if i can take my hps bulb out and put a mh bulb in of the same equivelant wattage. will this work or will this blow up? lol
